Level Specific Descriptors
Exempted from the Pre-Calculus course Students are capable of: and placed into Calculus I (MATH101) ▪ Solving linear, quadratic, and equations involving radicals or absolute values ▪ Identifying a function, its domain and range, perform the main five operations on them and recognize its properties algebraically ▪ Recognizing the main properties of functions through their graphs ▪ Using different techniques to graph /recognize basic functions and logarithmic and trigonometric functions ▪ Solving exponential and logarithmic equations ▪ Manipulating expressions and solve equations involving logarithms and exponents ▪ Finding/ graphing the inverse of different types of functions ▪ Solving triangles ▪ Recognizing and using trigonometric identities in solving trigonometric questions Exempted from the Elementary Algebra Students are capable of: Course and placed into Pre-Calculus ▪ Classifying numbers and simplifying algebraic expressions (MATH P100) (rational and radical) and identifying their domain ▪ Manipulating exponents and rational expressions ▪ Performing operations on polynomials including use of special products ▪ Mastering different techniques of factoring algebraic expressions ▪ Solving equations and inequalities: rational, radical, and absolute value ▪ Computing distance and midpoint between two points ▪ Applying the Pythagorean theorem ▪ Graphing a line given its equation or given two points and point and slope or vice-versa
Placed into Elementary Algebra Students are capable of:
(MATH021) ▪ Performing basic operations on simple arithmetic and algebraic expressions ▪ Solving simple linear equations and inequalities. ▪ Using basic factoring techniques ▪ Recognizing basic information about and from a graph of linear equations
