Introduction:
Energy conversion means transforming energy from one to another. We know the
law of conservation of energy that energy can nether be created nor destroyed.
That’s means energy does not appear out of anywhere and does not disappear into
anything. It only transforms from one to another. For example, when we compress
or extend a spring, it stores elastic potential energy and when we release the spring
the potential energy converts into kinetic energy. These conversions enable us to
meet our diverse energy needs in the most efficient practical, and sustainable ways
possible. By converting energy, we can maximize the use of resources around us.
We can make our resources more efficient and reduce waste. Efficient energy
conversion can reduce pollution and helps us to mitigate environmental issues like
climate change. If we apply better energy conversion techniques, we can make
energy affordable and boost economic stability.
By using wind, water flow or steam the turbine rotates first which
then drives a generator. After that the generator converts this
mechanical energy to electrical energy. Hydropower plants are one of
them. It uses canals or penstocks to produce electricity from
mechanical energy. Fig: Hydropower Pant
The sun provides daylight that can be converted into electrical energy
with the aid of solar technologies, including PV panels or mirrors
concentration on the sun. All this is saved in thermal storage or via
batteries to generate electricity.
Nuclear Power plant use nuclear fission to convert nuclear energy into thermal
energy. Nuclear fission is the process where a neutron causes fission in uranium
atoms to create a large amount of heat and radiation energy. This heat energy is
used to boil water and create pressurized steam. Outlets of this steam spin large
turbine blades, which drive magnetic generators to produce electricity.
Now we are going to discuss about the main aspects of energy conversion in
Bangladesh:
1. Biomass and Biogas: Biomass is normally used for heating and cooking
which is made of agricultural wastes, animal dung and wood and biogas is
used for both cooking and generating electricity.
2. Fossil Fuels: Natural gas is the main source of Bangladesh. It is used for
household work, transportation & generating power. We have some oil
mines, but oil is mainly imported and used for transportation. Recently
Bangladesh has developed some coal-fired power plant which generate a
significant amount of electricity.
So, what is the future of our energy? We have many populations. But our power
supply is limited. SO, we must expand our power sources. The Ruppur Power
Plant can play a significant role in meeting future energy demands. We should
utilize renewable energy properly and take initiatives to increase manpower
required for the powerplants.
Conclusion:
To conclude, those instances of energy transformation can also confirm the basic
principles and purpose behind the change of one type of energy into another. There
are just conceptual things or real first processes implementing our daily life with
all its routine and technically powered improvement. Understanding those
examples and knowing the principles behind this transition in terms of energy will
enable us to overcome global sustainability issues such as climate change, lack in
proper management and provision for enough usable power supply.
