LESSON EXEMPLAR

I. CURRICULUM CONTENT, STANDARDS, AND LESSON COMPETENCIES

A. Content The learners should have knowledge and understanding of the
Standards determination of measures of angles and number of sides
of
polygons
B. Performance The learners are able to draw, and describe the
Standards features/properties of, regular and irregular polygons. (MG)
C. Learning The learners deduce the relationship between the
Competencies exterior angle and adjacent interior angle of a polygon.
and Objectives 1. identify the exterior angle and adjacent interior angle
of a polygon;
2. differentiate the exterior angle and adjacent interior
angle of a polygon;
3. measure the exterior angle and adjacent interior angle
of a polygon;
4. deduce the relationship between the exterior angle
and adjacent interior angle of a polygon.
D. Content Exterior Angle and Adjacent Interior Angle of a Polygon

III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE NOTES TO

TEACHERS
A. Activating Let’s Engage! This activity
Prior Activity Based Instruction can be done by
Knowledge The learners will identify whether the given showing the
figure is a polygon or not. figures on the
slide and the
students who
will answer
will be chosen
using
randomizer or
fish ball
method.

Key Term:

A polygon is a plane figure enclosed by line

segments called sides and interiors do not
intersect.
B. Establishing Let’s Explore! Lead the
Purpose for the Am I In or Out? students with
Lesson the concepts of
exterior, interior
and adjacent
angles.

Guide Questions:
1. Using the figure, name the exterior
angles.
2. Name the interior angles.
3. Identify pairs of adjacent angles.

Key Terms:
An exterior angle of a polygon is an angle at
a vertex of the polygon, outside the polygon,
formed by one side and the extension of an
adjacent side.

Interior angles are the angles within a

polygon made by two sides.

Adjacent angles are two angles that are side

by side and share a common vertex and a
common side. They are often formed by
intersecting lines or line segments.

Let’s Practice!
You Complete Me

Angles Angles Adjacent
Angles

Answer the following questions:

1. How did you determine the Exterior
Angles in the given polygon?
2. How did you determine the
Interior Angles in the given
polygon?
3. How did you determine the pair of
adjacent angles in the given polygon?
C. Developing and Let’s Elaborate! The activities
Deepening should be done
Understanding Lesson Activity 1. Measure Me! collaboratively.
Group learners into 4 groups.
Let the learners answer the task assigned to
them.

Groups 1 and 3:
Measure the angles in the figure below
using a protractor.

1. m∠A = m∠X=
2. m∠B = m∠Y=
3. m∠C = m∠Z=
4. m∠D = m∠W=
Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. What did you do to find the measure
of the angles?
3. What can you say about the
measures of each pair of angles?
4. What relationship exist between these
pairs of angles?
Groups 2 and 4:
Measure the angles in the figure below
using a protractor.

1. m∠1 = m∠4=
2. m∠2 = m∠6=
3. m∠3 = m∠5=
Guide Questions:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. What did you do to find the measure
of the angles?
3. What can you say about the
measures of each pair of angles?
4. What relationship exist between these
pairs of angles?
Key Terms/Concepts:

Interior angles are the angles within a

polygon made by two sides. Meanwhile,
Exterior angles of a polygon are the angles
at the vertices of the polygon, that lie outside
the shape. The angles are formed by one side
of the polygon and extension of the other
side. The sum of an adjacent interior angle
and exterior angle for any polygon is equal
to 180 degrees since they form a linear pair.

Lesson Activity 2. Deal or No Deal

D. Making Let’s Synthesize!

Generalizations A Wrap Up!

Guide for generalization or summary of the

lesson:
1. What is an exterior angle and
interior angle of a polygon?
2. How did they differ from each other?
3. How can you measure the exterior angle
and adjacent interior angle of a
polygon?
4. Deduce the relationship between the
exterior angle and adjacent interior
angle of a polygon.

Let’s Apply! Problem Posing Activity

The roof of an open

shed at Kalibo Pastrana
Park, Kalibo, Aklan is a
regular octagon. The
measure of each
interior angle is 135
degrees. What is the
measure of each
adjacent exterior angle?
IV. EVALUATING LEARNING: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND NOTES TO
TEACHER’S REFLECTION TEACHERS
A. Evaluating Let’s Assess
Learning
Part I. Modified True or False. Based on the
situation below, write TRUE if the statement
is true. Otherwise change the underline
word/s to make the statement true.

Each cell in a section of honeycomb has a

hexagonal ('hexagon-like') opening.

1. If the measures of each interior angle is

120 degrees, then the measure of each
adjacent exterior angle is 45 degrees.
2. If the measures of an exterior angle is
60 degrees, then the measure of the
adjacent interior angle is 120
degrees
3. If the exterior angle is an acute angle,
then the adjacent interior angle is
obtuse.
4. If you will extend one side of the
hexagonal cell, the angle formed
outside the cell forms a linear pair with
its adjacent angle.

Part II. To deduce the relationship between

the exterior angle and adjacent interior
angle of a polygon, supply the missing
phrase below.

5. The relationship between the exterior

angle and adjacent interior angle of a
polygon is .
