Problem Set 2
Solve the following linear programming problems completely using simplex method. You are all required to
submit computerize outputs in pdf format on or before 5:00 O’clock in the afternoon today (February 11, 2023)
in our google classroom. This assignment will not be available after 5:00 pm
1. An animal feed producer mixed two types of grains: X and Y. Each unit of grain X contains 20 grams
fat, 10 grams of protein 800 calories, each unit of grain Y contains 30 grams of protein, 30 grams of fat
and 600 calories. Suppose that the producer wants each unit of the final product to yield at least 180
grams of fat, at least 120 grams of protein and at least 4800 calories. If each unit of X cost P180 and
each unit of Y cost P160, how many units of each type of grain should the producer use to minimize his
cost? (25 points)

Grain X 20 10 800 P180
Grain Y 30 30 600 P160

Therefore the producers need to mix 3 units of Grain X and 4 units of Grain Y to make a minimum cost of
P1,180

2. Four foods X1, X2, X3, X4 are to be produced. X1 contains 2 calories, no vitamin and cost P40 per unit.
X2 contains no calories, 2 units of vitamins and cost P100. X3 contains 1 unit calorie, 1 unit of vitamins
and cost P120 per unit. X4 contains 3 units calories, 2 units vitamins and cost P150 per unit. The
minimum calorie requirement is 15 units and the minimum vitamin requirement is 8 units. How much of
each food should be produced to satisfy these requirements and to minimize the total cost? (25 points)
