Welcome Message
We are most pleased to extend you our warmest invitation to the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Anaesthesiology
2017 in conjunction with 12th ASCA Scientific Meeting. This meeting gains prominence with every passing year with a
particular objective to advance the scientific knowledge in anaesthesia and intensive care. This year we continue this
unwavering mission with our theme as “Beyond The Theatre”.
Anaesthesia as a specialty has changed beyond recognition. There are few places in hospital that are untouched by
anaesthetists. Our scientific committee has assembled a remarkable program to address this diversity in demand of our
expertise. A compilation of plenary sessions, hands-on workshops, problem based learning and poster sessions, we extend
our meeting to a three-day scientific program encompassing exciting updates in our role beyond the scope of theatre
management. We will bring you burning furtherance in the latest airway techniques, ventilation strategies, sedation
advancements, enhanced recovery approaches, cardiovascular optimizations and patient blood management. Special
spotlight sessions concentrating in geriatric perspectives, focus ultrasonography application and bronchoscopic essentials
will be arranged. There will be dedicated sessions for training in anaesthesia and medical-legal overview and we will as
well feed your desire for adventure in anesthesia i.e. condition without oxygen and electricity.
Hong Kong, beneath its stunning skyline, is a city where history, arts, food, and culture flourished. With its exceptional
location, we will bring you a superb social program as the perfect complement to our scientific meeting. “Art and
Anaesthesia” - Expect great food, a dazzling fusion of spectacular photography, live music performance and a unique
cultural evening blended with excitement and tranquility on our Sunday Congregation Dinner not to be missed.
We welcome all to attend and participate to promote discovery in the field of anaesthesia, intensive care and pain
medicine in its mission of scientific achievement and clinical excellence in service to our patients. Thank you again to all
of our speakers, our ingenious organizing committee and our ever-supportive healthcare industry for your energy and
devotion to bring our commitment into action.
In the name of ASM 2017, We are looking forward to welcoming all of you in this incredible city - Hong Kong - where
worlds collide. Let’s meet for the “Beyond The Theatre”!

Welcome Message
We are very honored and grateful to hold this 12th Meeting of the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologists during
the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting in Anesthesiology jointly organized by The Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists
(HKCA) and The Society of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong (SAHK).
The theme “Beyond the Theatre” truly underscores the vital role that anaesthesiologists play and contribute in the
successful outcome of surgical patients. As cardiothoracic anesthesiologists, we do experience a dynamic evolution in
cardiovascular care. These give the impetus for us to pursue a deeper understanding of the new technology and various
approaches that set the pace in cardiothoracic surgery and anesthesia.
Congratulations to the 2017 ASM Organizing Committee for laying down a scientific program that mirrors the new
environment of scientific concepts, strategies and skills that we all need as perioperative physicians who are constantly
challenged with perioperative patient care ‘beyond the theatre’.
Life is not all about ‘work’ though. Let this event be an occasion for us to have a meeting of the minds, share our
experiences and catch up with old acquaintances and more importantly, make new friends, too.
Together with the Board Members of the Asian Society of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists, we warmly welcome you to
the 12th ASCA Meeting and 2017 ASM in Hong Kong.
See you soon.

recommends this innovative training workshop for all novice echo learners. Led by Professor Haibo Song, the West China Hospital team will use
simultaneous porcine heart dissection and 3D heart model simulation to help the novice echo learner to understand the 3D anatomy of the heart in
the focused TTE and TOE views. The second part of the workshop will help the learners to acquire basic transthoracic views in human models. This is
especially suitable for novice learners who want to learn both focused TTE and TOE in one day.
