The works shall be executed in accordance with the following methodology and sequence;
1. Backfilling

 Before installing the facilities where required (Piping, Cables etc.,) necessary bedding shall be
made as required to avoid damage to the facilities as specified in project specifications or by
specification of concerned authority.
 Before backfilling all the underground Facilities/Structure/Cables shall be installed testing, by
the Third Party, shall be completed where applicable and witness by the Employer's
Representative and recorded as per ITP.
 All the back fill materials should be tested and evaluated for the applicable grade and suitability.
 The source details of the borrow materials shall be submitted to the Employer's Representative
for approval. No material shall be brought to the site until the material is approved by the
Employer's Representative.
 Backfilling shall be placed in uniform layers of the specified thickness and wetting operations,
if required, shall be carried out in a way so that uniform moisture content is assured throughout
each layer.

2. Compaction

 Procedure and detail of compaction shall be submitted to Employer's Representative of concern

authority for approval before any compaction takes place. Compaction shall be done by
pneumatic-tired rollers, steel-wheeled rollers, tampers or other approved equipments suitable
for the type of soil to be compacted or the location where the compaction to be done.
 Materials shall be moistened or aerated as necessary to provide the moisture content required
to obtain the specified compaction.
 No fill shall be compacted with free water on the fill surface.
 The field Density Test shall be conducted and recorded as directed by the Employer's
Representative and as specified in the project specification and ITP.

 Note that particular specification shall be applied to compaction around and above district
cooling pipe work and these will be issued by the concerned authority in the near future

3. Structural Backfilling

 Trenches shall not be backfilled until all required tests and inspection are performed and the
service therein approved by Employer's Representative and concerned authority.
 Trenches shall be backfilled to the finished grade with suitable material for the specified degree
of compaction as applicable to the particular area.
 Trenches improperly backfilled shall be reopened to the depth required for the proper degree
of compaction and then refilled and compacted.
 The surface shall be restored to its original condition as near as practicable.
 Special care shall be taken to provide a firm sand bedding / suitable material to the bottom of
the pipe and fittings or any services for the full length of the pipe. Where the pipe is coated or
insulated, great care shall be exercised in padding and backfilling to prevent damages to the
coating or insulation.
 After the pipe has been thoroughly bedded and covered and provide suitable caution tape or
concrete slab etc, and the trench shall be backfilled with suitable excavated material.
 Backfilling material shall be evenly spread for the full width of the trench in layers not
exceeding150 mm in compacted thickness.
 Each layer shall be compacted to the specified density as applicable to the particular area
crossed by the trench.
 The protective concrete tiles, as shown in the drawings, shall be placed after the services have
been covered with sand or suitable material and layers compacted and remainder of trench shall
be backfilled.
