I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. describes coordinating conjunction:


b. construct sentences using coordinating conjunctions; and
c. identify coordinating conjunction in a sentence.

II. Subject Matter :

Topic: Conjunction

References: English for Better living 6 page 352-364

Materials: Balloon, envelop, laptop, PPT and work sheets.

Values: Appreciate, collaborate, and participate in the lesson.

III. Procedure:

Preliminary Activities

Prayer (the teacher will choose a student (the student lead the prayer)
to lead the prayer)

need to do is to read the sentence

paste it where it belongs.

group the students into 3 groups).
Each group will have a picture and
a word. They need to make a
sentence using the picture and the
word that the teacher will give. (GROUP 1)

Conjunction
Abstraction -is a part of speech that is used
to connect words, phrases,
clauses, or sentences.

Coordinating Conjunction
(the students will listen carefully)
- is a word that connects
words, phrases, or
sentences.

Then ask: Are you familiar with the


FANBOYS?
F- for
A- and
N- nor ”No ma’am”
B- but
O- or
Y- yet
S- so

For
- Is used to explain the ‘why’ in a
situation.
Example: She needs to be home for
her kids.

And
- It is used when two similar clauses or
points are made.
Example: The taxi stopped at the train
station and two men got out of it.

Nor
- It is used about similar two items but in
the negative sense. It is generally used
after a neither(-neither, -nor)
Example: She is neither tall nor fat.

But
- It is generally used to show a contrast
between two clauses.
Example: I like living in the city but my
brother prefers living in the country.

Or
- Is used to suggest an option or
alternative
Example: Don’t tell John about his
birthday party or you’ll spoil the
surprise.

Yet
- Is used to show a contrast in spite of
something.
Example: She regrets having spoken
to her friend like that, yet, she
hasn’t apologized.

So
-This word is used to show the
consequence or result of something
Example: I’ve just eaten dinner so,
I’m not hungry.

Application Let’s have some activity and this “Yes ma’am”


activity is what we call “POP THE
BALLOON”.

(the teacher will group the students


into 2 groups)

Instruction: Each group will have


5 balloons. You need to pop the
balloons in order to get the word
inside to complete the sentence
that the teacher will give.

Ok! Let’s start!

5. I am a vegetarian, so I don’t eat any meat.

6. Jennifer does not like to swim, nor does she enjoy cycling.

7. Thomas will be late to work, for he has a dental appointment

8. Would you rather have cheese or ham on your sandwich?

9. His two favourite sports are football and tennis.


10 He seemed poorly groomed yet well mannered.

V. Assignment

Write 5 sentences using coordinating conjunctions.
