1. In your own words, what is an analogy based on the
activities given? What have you discovered?
2. What are the three types of analogy you have learned
today?
3. How do the different types of analogy differ from one
another?
4. How does analogy function in a sentence?
c. Abstraction  An Analogy shows the relationships between words. It
states the likeness between two things that are otherwise unlike.
 Analogies may enable one to learn new words by
recognizing the relationship between words.
 The main function of analogy is not just to show, but to
explain or justify. Meanwhile, figures of speech just like simile or
metaphor only aim to show without providing clear descriptions or
explanations.
 Analogy is more complex in nature than figures of speech.
 Analogy is also very vital in Science, Math, Arts and
Economics. In fact, The use of analogy in the arts and sciences
has a long and wonderful history. If you will read history, analogy
is mother to creativity. It seems to have been one of the ladders
Newton used to gain access to the shoulders of his scientific
giants.
 Analogy can be carried too far, as our early-century
flirtation with Social Darwinism has proven. While some analogy
has been made with basic pursuits (music from mathematics), it is
more likely that the most common source of analogical inspiration
is nature. Nature has supplied art, literature, music, engineering,
biology, chemistry, physics (once called Natural Philosophy) and
economics with suggestions that have advanced our
understanding in these arenas.
