Notes: 1. In this assessment, you can use generative artificial


intelligence (AI) in order to understand what is a

report only. Any use of generative AI must be
appropriately acknowledged (see Learn HQ)
2. Any dispute among group members should be
brought to the examiner’s attention (in writing) at
least 7 days before the assessment deadline. The
examiner reserves the right to vary the marks of
individual group members where (a)
contribution/performance varies significantly; or (b)
pursuant to an investigation into the alleged incidence
of ‘free-loading’.

Assignment Instructions
For this assignment, you are a group of International Business strategists currently
considering expanding the company’s business into a country of your group’s choice. The
team is required to write a business report (3,000 words) on the internationalisation strategy
using the following steps;

Business Report (30%)


1. Form a group of 4-5 students within the same tutorial class. Please finalise latest by
Week 3. Update your group details here. Note: Your tutor may add additional team
members upon finalising the group.
2. Select a for-profit private company (non-public listed companies, internet
presence) of your choice. The company can be from any country but must not be a
publicly listed company. The company must have an internet presence to
demonstrate the existence of the organisation.

a. Please submit the name and URL link of the company by Week 4 to your
tutor.
b. Company is on a first-come, first serve basis. There should be no duplicates.

3. Identify 2 potential South East Asia countries (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia,
Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines) that your team
wishes to expand into. Please ensure that the company you have chosen in the
previous step is not from the same country that you plan to expand into.
4. Compare and contrast these two countries based on the factors influencing
international business.
5. Prepare a business report with the goal/aim to;

a. Conduct a comparative market analysis by evaluating the factors influencing


international businesses and their processes and strategies (political, legal,
economic and cultural factors).
b. Provide an analysis and recommendation of the entry mode (Pick only 2 entry
modes for analysis and recommend one).
c. Provide a recommendation for the global strategy.
6. The report should include the following;
a. Cover Page
b. Table of Contents
c. Executive Summary
d. Introduction to Company Background.
e. Comparative analysis of the factors that are taken into consideration
(justification of choice of country and evidence)
f. Analysis and recommendation of the mode of entry (Justification and
evidence)
g. Global Strategy (Justification and evidence)
h. Conclusion
i. Reference List
j. Appendices (if required)

Interim Review
An interim review will be conducted during tutorial classes in Weeks 6 and 7.

During the review, as a team, you are expected to report on the following;

a. Company background
b. Comparative analysis of the factors (Political, Legal, Cultural, Economics) that
are taken into consideration (justification and evidence).
c. Conclusion and recommendation of the chosen country.

Note: A 10% interim marks will be awarded to the team. This marks is not final. It is simply a
snapshot of your work so far. The final grade will depend on the improvements you make to
your final report. Focus on incorporating the feedback you received in this review into your
final report.

Peer Review (5%)

Project Management (5%)


You are required to submit the following;

● Document 1: Team Contract: This sets expectations and establishes ground rules for
the team, including roles and responsibilities, communication protocols, conflict
resolution strategies, and contribution expectations.
● Document 2: Meeting Minutes: Document key decisions, action items, and next steps
from each team meeting. Submit all meeting minutes in a single Word Document file
to be submitted with the final report.
● Document 3: Collaborative Document: Have a collaborative working document (eg:
Google document) to facilitate document creation and editing. Provide the URL link
with editing access to your tutor and Chief Examiner. Provide the link in the meeting
minutes document.
● Document 4: Contribution to the Learning Environment: Provide your screenshots of
evidence of contribution.
