Descriptive text

Descriptive text is writing that describes an object based on the author's observations, feelings,

and experiences.

This text usually contains sentences that describe an object (object or living thing) and gives the

reader the impression that he saw, heard, and felt that object. To do this, the writer must use good

words and language to describe the topic in detail.

Description Text Features

Descriptive Text Structure (Generic Structure)

Identification is an introduction, a general description of a topic.

Description is a description of the specific characteristics of the object, place, or person being

described. For example, traits, physical appearance, and other things that are written specifically.

Noun: Use specific nouns, such as my cat, my boyfriend, National Monument, In addition, often

also use adjectives (adjectives) to clarify the use of nouns or nouns, such as a big house, a smart

student, an independent woman.

Simple present tense: uses basic verbs or the first form (verb 1) and uses verbs that can show the

possession or state of an object. Descriptive text uses simple present tense because descriptive

text tells a fact about the object being described. For example, My office has 22 floors, Azka is

pretty, and others.


Action verbs: Using verbs that show an activity or an activity that can be seen. For example,

sleep, walk, sing, dance, etc.

Figurative language: Using figurative language or describing something, usually using a

metaphor to illustrate to the reader

Descriptive text has different characteristics from other texts. The following are the

characteristics of descriptive text in general:

 Describe or explain something

 Explanation in detail and involving the five senses

 Trying to bring the scene or event of the text closer to the readers and listeners

 Involve the five senses to make the reader understand

 The sentence according to focuses on one thing according to the explanation

Example:

My Lovely Cat (Kucing Kesayanganku)

I have a stray cat as my pet. He is really playful, He has orange and white fur, his fur is so soft
and I like to rubs it for him. He has a long tail. He likes to play with it. He is also always try to
catch his tail sometimes. I also like to hold him in my hand, when i hold him like that he will fall
asleep.
