MS PowerPoint

What is MS PowerPoint?
• Presentation program
• Developed by Microsoft who is also responsible for developing
other software in MS 365 suite i.e. Word, Excel and Access, as well
as operating systems such as MS-DOS and Windows
• Initial release – April 20, 1987
• Latest stable release – January 9, 2024 (Build 2312)
Common Mistakes
Overloading Slides
Impacts and Consequences of Slide Content
Saturation
• Overloaded slides can overwhelm the audience, making it difficult for them
to focus on or remember any key points
• They reduce comprehension and retention, as too much information at once
can lead to cognitive overload and confusion
• Audience engagement drops significantly with overloaded slides, as viewers
may feel bored or intimidated by the sheer amount of content
• Important information may get lost in the clutter, preventing the audience
from understanding what is truly important
• They can appear unprofessional, as cluttered and chaotic slides may reflect
poorly on the presenter’s ability to organize and present thoughts clearly
• Overloading inhibits clear communication, making it harder for the audience
to follow along and for the presenter to effectively convey the message
Common Mistakes
Fonts & Typeface
Fonts & Typeface
• Simplicity in slides is key
• It is generally recommended to only use 2 font types at
most i.e. 1 font for header and 1 font for content.
• Using too many fonts can make the presentation look cluttered and unprofessional
• It is also important to choose fonts that are easy to read and complement each other well

•Play around with font sizes,

bold and italic
• Make sure the color contrast is good
Common Mistakes
Images
Images
• Insufficient Resolution
• Wrong Proportions
• Background Mismatch
• Inconsistent Style
• Disrupts the content
• Irrelevant images
• Unauthorized use of images
Common Mistakes
Transitions
Transitions
• Moves and transitions make your presentation more engaging
• Text boxes or shapes appear on the slide gradually, images pop up
out of nowhere and the transitions amongst the slides take place
in an interesting way
• But you must not overdo it. Having too many moves on your
presentation might be irritating for your audience, or they will be
more enthusiastic about the effects rather than the points you
want to make
• In both cases, you are moving away from your goal.
