Are you ready to present?
Okay, reporters please present your answer.
Yes, Ma’am.
Very good, class. Let us give everyone a round of
applause. (PRESENTATION)
2.Analysis
Based in your activity, how did you find the mean?
(Student will answer the question)
How about the median? We get the sum of the data and divide it to the number
of values, Ma’am.
To find the median, arrange the data in ascending order
Lastly, how did you find the mode? or decreasing order and look for middle value.
To find the mode for a set of data, we need to select the
Teaching or Modelling measure that appears most often in the set.
For today, we are going to talk about:
Measures of Central Tendency for Ungrouped Data
What is a mean?
The mean is the average of a data set. It is computed by
summing all the values of the variable in the data set
divided by the number of observations. Using the (Students will read the definition)
Σx
formula x= where Σ x is the sum of the data and N
N
is the number of values in a data set.
Example:
1. What is the mean of the following numbers?
10, 35, 70, 39, 65, 39, 28
Σx
x=
N
x=¿ 10 + 35 + 70 + 39 + 65 + 39 +28
7
Mean = 286
7
Mean = 40.86
What is a median?
The median is the middle value in a set of data. To find (Students will read the definition)
a median, arranged the scores either in increasing or
decreasing order and then find the middle score.
Raw Data – data in its original form.
Array – arrangement of data according to order of
magnitude (increasing or decreasing order).
Case 1) If N is odd; the median is the middle number.
Case 2) If N is even, the median is the average of the 2
x 1+ x 2
middle numbers. 𝑋=
2
Example:79, 82, 92, 92,93
N=5; median=92
Example:79, 82, 92, 92,93,94
x 1+ x 2 92+92
N=6; 𝑋= ; 𝑋= ;median=92
2 2
What is a mode? (Students will read the definition)
The mode is the measure or value which occurs most
frequently in a set of data. It is the value with the
greatest frequency.
Types of Mode:
No mode – A data having equal frequency of
observations.
Unimodal – A data having one mode.
Bimodal – A data having two modes.
Multimodal – a data having more than two modes.
Example: Find the mode of the following and tell
whether it is no mode, unimodal, bimodal, and (Student will stand up)
multimodal. 1. No mode
1.) 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3 and 3. 2. Mo = 4, Unimodal
2.) 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4 and 5. 3. Mo = 1, 5 and 9, Multimodal
3.) 1, 1, 1, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 7, 8, 9, 9, and 9.
3.Abstraction
The measures of central tendency are mean, median
What are the measures of central tendency? and mode, Ma’am.
The mean is the average of a data set, Ma’am.
What is a mean?
Get the sum of the data and divide it to the number of
How do we find the mean? values.
Value that lies in the middle of the data when arranged
What is a median? in ascending or descending order of magnitude or
middle term in an array of observations.
To find a median, arranged the scores either in
How do you find or compute the median? increasing or decreasing order and then find the middle
score. If the number of observations is odd, the median
is only one item at the center. But when the number of
observations is even, then median is the average of the
two middle observations. And use the formula
X 1+ X 2
Median =
2
What is a mode? The mode is the measure or value which occurs most
frequently in a set of data. It is the value with the
greatest frequency.
How about the Types of Mode? No mode – A data having equal frequency of
observations.
Unimodal – A data having one mode.
Bimodal – A data having two modes.
Multimodal – a data having more than two modes.
Any question or clarification about Measure of Central None, Ma’am.
Tendency?
4.Application
Now for your final activity, using the same group, we are
going to play “1, 2, 3, GO!”. I will read the questions and
one representative from your group will write the answer
on the board after I will say 1,2,3, Go! The group who
got the right answer first will get the point. Is that clear? Yes Ma’am.
Very good, you can also use another phone as a
calculator, now are you ready? Yes, Ma’am.
Questions: Answer:
1. What measure of central tendency is calculated 1. MEAN
by adding all the values and dividing the sum by
the number of values? “1, 2, 3, GO!”
2. Which of the measures of central tendency can 2. MODE
have more than one value for a set of data?
“1, 2, 3, GO!”
3. This measurement arranges data from least to 3. MEDIAN
greatest and chooses the middle value of the
ungrouped data? “1, 2, 3 GO!”
4. Mean = 10 + 12+ 12 + 14 + 14 + 15
4. What is the mean of the following numbers? 6
