1. Introduction
• India has a large and diverse geographical area.
• There is a wide range of climate, plant life, wildlife,
as well as languages and cultures.
• India has an area of about 3.28 million sq. km.
• Since 2011, India's population has been more than
1.2 billion, making it the second most populated
country globally, just behind China.

• It is a longitude that passes through the middle of


country from a city in Uttar Pradesh called Mirzapur.
• The time of this longitude is chosen as the time for the
whole country.
Calculating Local Time
• 360°: 1 rotation in 24 hours
• 24 hours = 24 × 60 = 1440
minutes
• 360° in 1440 minutes
• 1440/360 = 4 minutes per
degree
• Different longitudes experience different local times.
• The sun rises about two hours earlier in the east
(Arunachal Pradesh) than in the west (Gujarat)

Peninsular plateau
• Located to the south of the Northern Plains.
• It's a triangular piece of land with rugged terrain.
• Home to various hill ranges, including the Aravallis,
Vindhyas, and Satpuras.
• The Narmada and Tapi rivers flow through this region,
draining into the Arabian Sea, and are called west-
flowing rivers.
• The western boundary is bordered by the Western
Ghats (Sahyadris), and the eastern boundary is
flanked by the Eastern Ghats..

• These are coral islands located off the coast of Kerala.
• Corals are skeletons of tiny marine animals called
Polyps.
• When the living polyps die, their skeletons are left.
• Other polyps grow on top of the hard skeleton which
grows higher and higher, thus forming the coral
islands.
