Directions: Answer the following questions.

A. Fill in the Blanks

1. The SI unit for force is __________.

2. Mass multiplied to the acceleration due to gravity equals __________.
3. All objects on free-fall at a given place have the same __________.
4. A dog weighs 75 Newton therefore its mass is__________.
5. The acceleration due to gravity is directed towards the __________of the earth.
6. Acceleration multiplied to the mass of the body is equal to __________.
7. The gravitational force of two bodies can be computed by using the formula __________.
8. The application of force changes the __________of an object.
9. An object has a __________ weight in moon than in earth.
10. The amount of material/ matter in an object is called the object’s __________.

B. Answer the following conceptual Questions.

1. Give the three statements of the three laws of motion and give an example for each law.

2. What will be the value of work if the force applied is perpendicular to the displacement of the object?

3. What is the relationship between kinetic and potential energy?

C. Problem Solving. Solve the following problems. Show your complete solution.

1. The speedboat has a constant acceleration of 2.0 m/s2. If the initial velocity of the boat is 6.0 m/s, find
its displacement after 8.0 seconds.

2. A jet is taking off from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Starting from rest, the jest is catapulted with a
constant acceleration of 31 m/s2 along a straight line and reaches a velocity of 62 m/s. Find the
displacement of the jet.

3. An astronaut on a distant planet wants to determine its acceleration due to gravity. The astronaut throws
a rock straight up with a velocity of 15 m/s and measures a time of 20.0 s before the rock returns to his
hand. What is the acceleration due to gravity on this planet?

4. From her bedroom window a girl drops a water-filled balloon to the ground 6.0 m below. If the balloon
is released from rest, how long is it in air?
5. A 40-kg body was acted upon by a net force of 50 newtons. If the body was originally at rest, what was
its final velocity if the force was applied for 7 seconds?

6. At what rate could an 80-kg racer accelerates himself by exerting a force of 490 Newton?

7. A person pulls a toboggan for a distance of 35.0 m along the snow with a rope directed 25° above the
snow. The tension in the rope is 94.0 N. (a) how much work is done on the toboggan by the tension
force? (b) How much work is done if the same tension is directed parallel to the snow?

8. A person pushes a 16 kg shopping cart at a constant velocity for a distance of 22 m. She pushes in a
direction 29° below the horizontal. A 48 N frictional force opposes the motion of the cart. (a) What is
the magnitude of the force that the shopper exerts? Determine the work done by (b) the pushing force,
(c) the frictional force, and (d) the gravitational force.
Given: m = 16 kg Required: a. F
d = 22 m b. W of F
θ = 29° c. W fs
fs = 48 N d. W of g
