    UL 508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) Examination

    Scope of exam:
    This exam focuses on General Use Industrial Control Panels (part 1 of the standard), enclosures
    (section 62-64), Short Circuit Current Ratings (supplement SB), Appendix B and general program
    information from your follow-up inspection instructions (FUII). The exam is broken into four sections
    each independently scored. All sections must be completed with a minimum score of 80% to qualify
    as a UL 508A MTR.

    Section 1 covers:
    General information
    Product categories and Product iQ UL
    508A Sections 1-6

    Section 2
    UL 508A Sections 7-27
    Power circuits UL 508A Sections 28-36

    Section 3
    Control circuits Sections 37-48
    Marking and ratings Sections 49-61
    Enclosures Sections 62-64
    Appendix B

    Section 4
    SCCR Supplement SB

    Each exam section consists of 20 multiple choice\true\false questions. Questions are randomized
    and do not appear in sequence on exam retakes. The examination is open book\open reference.
    Each exam section has no time limit for completion, however once a section is started, all questions
    must be answered in a single session. Allowable resources for use during the exam are:

    • Print or electronic copy of the UL 508A standard, 3rd ed, dated April 24, 2018 with revisions
    dated July 28, 2022 or later
    • Print copies of materials from UL 508A training workshops
    • UL Follow-up Inspection Instructions (FUII)
    • UL.com website
    • UL Product IQ
    • Calculator
