ITC 3052 - PROJECT MANAGEMENT

ASSIGNMENT

Guidelines for submission –

➢ This is an individual assignment.


➢ There are 3 parts in this assignment and you need to provide your answers
according to the instructions provided in each part.
➢ You required to email your answers to [email protected] before
11:55pm on 9th August 2024 and need to mention your index number in the
subject line of the email.
➢ The answers submitted after the due date will not be accepted and will be
marked as CA failed.
➢ The submission can be typed or handwritten. There are no rules for font sizes,
page margins etc. However, the text needs to be clear and understandable.
Youth Centre Project

Saman Perera, a young entrepreneur, intends to build a Community Centre to engage


the youth in his city/suburb. The suburb is a mid-income suburb in Sri Lanka.
Comprising many families with youths (aged between 12 and 19). Some residents
have been complaining that some of the antisocial behaviour among the youth is the
result of there not being enough affordable activities to engage them.
• The centre will provide young people and other community members in the
suburb opportunities to engage in various arts, music and skill development
programs and workshops.
• The centre will also provide a venue hire for local community events.
• At the end of the three years, Saman plans to sell the centre for Rs.950,000/-
to another investor.
• While Saman believes that this project is important for the community, he is
not sure if this project is a good financial investment.
• Saman has asked you to be his project manager and put together a complete
project charter a formal document that describes the project in its entirely-
including project scope, Gantt charts, stakeholder analysis, communication
plan, project risk analysis, total cost of the project and simple calculations to
measure the potential profit derived from this project for the next 3 years and
whether Saman should go ahead with this project.
• The project start date is 2nd of September 2024
• Expected project completion date (handover) is 09th August 2025.
• Project budget must not exceed Rs.700,000/-
PS: The above list are some (but not all) of the activities that you need to consider.
For your assessment, you are required to identify all the higher-level activities and
then break down each of them into lower-level work packages, going down into level
2s and 3s.

WORKS

Project Costs
• Rs.20,000/- Research (stakeholder engagement and feedback) and
preliminary costs
• Rs.200,000/- Land purchase and preparation (land clearing, leveling,
surveying etc.)
• Rs.300,000/- Building Construction
• Rs.60,000/- Interior costs (flooring, lights, internal decor, Air-condition,
media equipment etc.).
• Rs.40,000/- landscaping.
• Rs.15,000/- Program development, Marketing and advertising
• Rs.15,000/- Kitchen equipment
PS: The above list are some (but not all) of the costs that you need to consider. For
your assessment, you are required to identify all the activities and associated costs.
Expected profit per month:
• 2500 from programs and workshops
• 4500 from venue hire
