Algebra:

Algebra is a fascinating branch

of mathematics which is useful
for programming, engineering,
economics, business and more!

Today we shall look at basic

simplifying expressions,
expansion of brackets and
solving basic linear equations.

Simplifying expressions:
You will need to simplify many
expressions in Algebra, there
are some ways we write
expressions in its simplest
terms. For example, x divide 2
is written as x/2 and x multiply
2 is written as 2x not x2
because it can be confused as a
power.
In Algebra, we simplify
expressions by collecting the
like terms. For example, 2 + 2x
+ 2y + 3x + 1 = 5x + 2y + 3
Worked example:
Simplify 2x + 3x + 5y + y in it’s
simplest terms.
2x and 3x are like terms so you
can simplify them
So 2x + 3x = 5x
