Introduction to Physic Education aligns with the first part of the mission statement
of the University which is to provide instructional programmes appropriate to a
University of high standard that guarantees academic excellence. The course will
empower Physics Education Graduates of the University to be high fliers because
of the pertinent knowledge they will possess. They will be better informed about
the importance of Physics, especially its utilitarian value, and hence be in a
position to positively influence the students to give attention to the study of
Physics. Such students as would encounter these graduates will expectedly, but
steadily learn to drop the phobia for Physics, to a point they will all acceptably
begin to consider the subject as a necessity and so deserving appropriate attention.
Overview
Physics is a subject that is an integral part of everyone’s life and has an influence
on virtually every aspect and field of human endeavor. Every individual needs
some sort of physics to carry on competently with life upon physics the advances
in science and technology are anchored. It is hence not erroneous for Physics to be
made a compulsory subject in secondary schools for students aspiring to study
sciences in tertiary institutions.
However, most often than not, students do not give attention to Physics learning
because they do not immediately see any use of the subject in their lives. It is
important therefore that Physics Education teacher trainees get to understand the
Importance of physic so that they can as teachers, help their students to understand
same. This will invariably change students’ perception of physics as they would
begin to consider Physics as a subject they cannot do without at Tertiary
Institutions as long as they want to study sciences.
Objectives
1. Explain the concept of physics Education
2. Discuss the importance of Physic Education to the society.
3. Discuss the regime of knowledge, competence and skills.
4. Identify the principles of the facilities Analysis teaching and learning.
5. Discuss Gayne’s Theory of learning and it’s implications
6. Identify and discuss the major components of teaching.
7. Explain the fundamental and derived quantities with examples.

This course connects with a strategies goal of the university that seeks to relate its
activities to the social, cultural and economic needs of the Nigerian people. The
course examines the unique needs of school children and considers the teaching
techniques and skills that can be used to effectively reach out to all learners.
Overview
Overview of physics teaching methods enables teaches trainees become familiar
with modern methods of teaching physics and low they expected by world enhance
students achievement.
This course also exposes physics teacher trainees to the use of computer in
teaching physics. The use of computer in teaching enhances learning span of as it
catches their attention. These teacher trainees will engage in the application of the
computer by preparing and delivering oral presentations and lessons. By practicing
the use of the computers in teaching, the teacher trainees become more competent
communicators as they develop more flexible and varied communicative practices
in diverse setting.
Objectives
The objectives of the course are to:
1. Explain the concept, teaching method.
2. Discuss the modern methods of teaching in the 21st century.
3. Identify the criteria for selection of teaching methods.
4. Explain the techniques/process of using computer in teaching.
5. Identify the merits and demerits of computer in Education.
6. Identify the limitations of the use of computer in the classrooms.
7. Discuss the barrier factors of the use of computer in the Classroom
8. Identify Educational equipment and gadgets used in the classroom.

Metacognition in Physics Education has connection with the first part of the
mission statement of the University which is to provide instructional, research and
public service programmes of high standing that guarantees academic excellence,
as well as the first strategic goal which is to encourage the advancement of
learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or
political conviction, the opportunity of acquiring higher liberal education. All
students who wish to become ingenious or creative Physics teachers, must
metacognitive as this would enhance the opportunity of acquiring relevant
knowledge and teaching skills that will make them stand out in the society with the
provision of this course.
Overview
This course on metacognitive in physic education is designed to help teacher
trainees gain the knowledge and skills necessary for becoming resourceful physics
educators. Students upon graduation will be able to use a variety of instructional
strategies and methods to effectively facilitate the learning of Physics. Making
student learn how to learn so as to be independent learners and high achievers.
Understanding the concept of metacognition is necessary to becoming an effective
senior secondary physics teacher.
Objectives
The Objectives of the course are to:
1. Discuss the concept of metacognition.
2. Explain the subdivision of metacognition.
3. Discuss students actions related to metacognitive skills
4. Discuss the applications of metacognition.
5. List the merits and demerits metacognition to students.
6. Mention the importance of metacognition to physics students.
7. Enumerate the metacognitive strategies.

This course has nexus with the first part of the first strategic goal which is to
encourage the advancement of learning. Usually people learn better and enjoy
learning when it is made a practical enterprise. Learning physics in the physics
laboratory will obviously make for better learning which will consequently
enhance student’s interest and achievement in the subject. Teacher trainees would
equally be equipped with the skill of constructing/designing some instructional
materials in the laboratory which will be of use for teaching the subject at lower
levels.
Overview
Physics laboratory is a place where student can learn physics concepts through
informal exploration and demonstration. It is a place where students can
experiment and explore ideas. It is a place where a collection of teaching and
learning materials are kept for students’ use in learning. Students get hands-on
experience in a physics laboratory that enhances their understanding of basic
concepts of physics and scopes for new innovations.
Considering the fear most student have of physics because of the abstract way in
which it is usually taught in schools, this course is designed to expose Physics
Education teacher trainees to learning of physics concepts so that they will be able
to explain concepts with understanding as Physics teachers. It will further train and
equip them with skills of improvisation so that they can be able to generate
instructional materials themselves if their schools are unable to provide such.
Objectives
The Objectives of the cause are to:
1. Explain the concept of physics laboratory
2. Mention the types of Laboratory
3. State four uses of a Laboratory
4. Discuss the organization of a physics laboratory
5. Identify the steps to maximize the use of physics laboratory.
6. Mention the 2 types of improvision.
7. List 5 rules finding the use of a physics Laboratory.
8. Enumerate 4 measures to prevent five outbreak is the laboratory.
9. Discuss the storage of light and heavy equipment in the laboratory.
10.List 5 firefighting equipment in the laboratory.

Physics curriculum aligns with the first part of the mission statement of the
University which is to provide instructional, research and public service
programmes of high standing that guarantees academic excellence. Physics
Education teacher trainees would examine the physics curriculum in use so as to
justify inclusion of contents. That way, they will be better informed on the
processes of curriculum development and turn out to be better skilled and
resourceful teachers.
Overview
What children are taught in Nigerian schools today as Physic has well organized
content in the form of a curriculum. The changing philosophy of Physics Education
in the country has continued to bring about a constant review of the contents of the
physics curriculum. The foremost aim of the effort that has yielded the curriculum
in use today in schools, is to connect the Nigerian child to his /her environment and
at the same time, reflect major reforms in the subject across the world. Since
curriculum is the central guide for all educators as to what is essential for touching
and learning in any subject area, the Physic teacher trainees is expected to be very
conversant with the content of the physics curriculum at the basic and senior
secondary levels. This course is designed to enable students critically understudy
the structure, organization and consideration in selecting physics curriculum
contents as well as the objectives of physics Education which learning of those
content are expected to facilitate their achievement. Student upon graduation can
also confidently and partake in physics curriculum review if selected to do so.
Objectives
1. Justify the objectives of physics education at the senior secondary level
2. Highlight the organization of the physics curriculum.
3. Identify the themes and contents of the physics education curriculum.
4. List the features of physics curriculum.
