■ The learning process in which students get directly
involved and learn by experience, is called 'Active learning’ i . e. students involving themselves in meaningful learning activities and thinking about what they are doing find place in 'Active learning '. Definition ■ Active learning is " anything that involves students in doing things and thinking about the things they are doing” (Bonwell & Eison. 1991) ■ "Active learning is a method of learning in which students are actively or experientially involved in the learning process. There are different levels of active learning, depending on student - involvement " (Weltman) ■ "Anything course - related that all students in a class session are called upon to do other than simply watching, listening and taking notes" ( Felder & Brent. 2009) Principles of active learning ■ Effort produces Achievement ■ Learning is about making connections ■ We learn with and through others ■ The teacher matter ■ Focused teaching promotes accelerated learning ■ All students should experience a ‘thinking curriculum’ ■ Effort Produces Achievement
■ For a long time American have operated on the belief that
inherited intelligence mainly determines academic achievement ■ Given the right conditions and support, almost everyone can achieve at high levels Learning Is About Making Connections
■ Knowledge is a “Constructive process”. We learn
by adding new knowledge to the knowledge we already have and integrating it with that knowledge. With Learn With and Through Others
