The International Assistance Mission (IAM), established in 1966, is a non-profit charitable

Afghanistan work in partnership with international volunteers to build capacity in the sectors of
health and development, working together in hope for the welfare of the people of Afghanistan.
Job Description Title: Social Worker
Length of service: 11 Month

Location: Herat- Farah-Ghor -Badghis


Job purpose: Under direct supervision of Project Manager, Social worker will provide
psychosocial services, case planning and case management for those children
who are at risk of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation. and conduct safe
referrals to essential services and follow-up to ensure services provided were
responsive to the needs identified through the JRCs (Juveniles rehabilitation
centers).

Relationships:
Responsible to: MHPSS Project manager / Project supervisors
Responsible for: Children/Juveniles and caregivers
Works with: International Assistance Mission, Mental health program, MHPSS Project

Key responsibilities and tasks:

1. Identification, follow up and referrals.


- Provide psychosocial and emotional support to children and families throughout the case
management process.
- Case Management for Individual Children and their Families to those children who have
experienced or are at risk of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Assessment, case planning, implementation of the case plan, follow-up and review case closure.
- Conduct safe referrals to essential services as appropriate, and follow-up to ensure services
provided were responsive to the needs identified within the assessment.
- Support implementation of the Mental Health and Psychosocial support program including
supervision of CFSs (Child friendly space) and CFJs (Child friendly justice ).
- provide Phycological First Aid (PFA) to the victims and witnesses of critical emergencies and
referral of critical cases of mental health disorders for specialized care.
- Support mitigation, prevention, and response to GBV cases including awareness-raising and
victim response.
- Collaborate with other child protection stakeholders working in the centers and advocate for
vulnerable children.
- Assist children in need of reunification and reintegration with their families.
- Conduct awareness raising programs for children and juveniles on mental health disorders,
PSEA, GBV and wellbeing.
- Ensure a safe and child-friendly atmosphere within the CFS, that all children feel comfortable,
safe, and respected and all children feel included, and no child is discriminated against.
2. Data Collection and Reporting
- Provide Regular weekly and monthly reports to project supervisors.
- Keep the record of cases and follow-up cases referred for specialized cares.
- Help and supports the project staff in terms of collecting the data.

Qualification:

Education:
- Bachelor in psychology or related fields.
- Short-term training on mental health and child protection will be considered as added value to the
qualification.

Personal:
- Willing to live and work by the IAM Core Values
- Concern for the wellbeing of the mentally ill
- High motivation to develop quality mental health care in Afghanistan
- Willing to take responsibility for the project
- Willingness to learn from others and receive on-going training.
- Ability to take initiative and work without supervision

Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in child projection, social work, mental health and any related
field.
- Experience in community-based activities will be an added value.

Skills:
- High communication skills
- Computer skills (specifically office programs)
