MATATAG LESSON PLAN

Content Use of Models
Content Standard Scientists use models to explain phenomena.
Learning Competency Recognize that scientists use models to explain phenomena that cannot be easily seen or detected.

Learning Objectives At the end of the lesson, the learners shall be able to identify the different models used by the scientist to explain phenomena that
cannot be easily seen or detected.

Teaching and Learning
Procedures
A. Activating Prior  Preliminary Activities
Knowledge Prayer, Greetings, Physical Arrangement Check, Checking of Attendance
(Minds and Moods)
Motivation:
- PICTURE PUZZLE. A picture puzzle is a set of irregularly cut pieces of an image that when arranged correctly, the
picture will be formed. The learners will arrange each picture puzzle. After arranging the puzzle, the learners will answer
the guide questions below.

Guide Questions:
1. What object was formed in picture 1? Picture 2?
2. Describe the function of each picture.
3. Which of the pictures is used in creating a planetary model?
4. What about cell structure?
5. What other models are you familiar with? Explain briefly.

B. Establishing Lesson Explain to the learners that the lesson is all about the models used by the scientist to explain phenomena that cannot be easily seen
Purpose or detected.
(Aims)
 Lesson Language Practice
The learners will be given an article to read, and they will be asked to mark any unfamiliar terms, phrases, or sentences as
well as describe any that may be confusing ones. The teacher will facilitate the discussion by asking the learners to give
their insights first on the unfamiliar terms, phrases, or sentences cited/identified in an operational manner. Then, the teacher
will provide additional information/knowledge on those cited/identified terms, phrases, and sentences.
C. Developing and
Deepening  Reading the Key Idea/Stem
Understanding
STATIONS ACTIVITY
(Tasks and Taught)
The teacher will prepare stations with a piece about different models used by scientist.

The learners will be grouped into 5. For the students to be guided. They will be given a template of a table for the Table
Completion Activity. The teacher will give enough time to the students to read the information/articles on each station
respectively.

 Developing Understanding of the Key Idea/Stem

The learners will be asked to read out and answer the following questions:
Q1. Name the scientist who uses the model to explain phenomena that cannot be easily seen or detected.
Q2. What are the models used by scientists to explain phenomena that cannot be easily seen or detected??

The teacher will observe learner’s individual answer and will ask a volunteer to present, giving positive feedback.

 Deepening Understanding of the Key Idea/Stem

The learners will be asked to read aloud and answer the following questions:
Q1. What is your observation on the illustration of each model?
Q2. In your opinion, why do scientist provide models to explain phenomena that cannot be easily seen or detected?
The teacher will be asked each group to have representative to present their work in front of the class. Processing and
giving positive feedback will follow.

D. Making
Generalizations The teacher will ask the learner’s if the lesson helped them to better identify the models used by the scientist to explain
(Abstraction) phenomena that cannot be easily seen or detected? If yes, how?

E. Evaluating Written Work. The learners will be given a set of questions that will serve a formative assessment to evaluate their learning
Learning outcomes for the day’s lesson objective and competency.
(Test)

Teacher’s Remarks The teacher uses the Instructional Design Framework which is Discovery Learning wherein learners are scaffold through set of
(Annotations) activities and simple experimentation to understand the topic. The lesson is integrative, collaborative and explorative.
