Pattern Notes:
You will need to know the “magic loop” method of
knitting small diameters on one large needle. Please
see www.knittinghelp.com for a video of this
technique.

Size: women’s average 8.5 inch circumference

Supplies Needed: 3+ ounces sport/DK weight yarn

(for cuff length shown, more yarn will be needed for

larger sizes and longer cuffs, crochet hook in similar
size as gauge needle, and a tapestry needle

Gauge: 7 stitches per inch in stockinette

Needle: 1 32 inch US 3 circular needle for magic

looping (or size needed to obtain gauge), 1 DPN

gauge needle sized

Leg:
CO 60 stitches onto circular needle. Pull up extra
needle cable between stitch 30 and 31 to create
your front and back sides. (30 stitches on both
needle sides) Join the round, paying extra close
attention that the back purl sides touch and are not
twisted.

*K1,P1* to end of round for 1 ½ inches

Begin pattern stitch:

Row 1- knit all stitches
Row 2- SSK, YO, K6, YO, K2tog
          6
Row 3- knit
Row 4- SSK, K1, YO, K4, YO, K1, K2tog           5
Row 5- knit
Row 6- SSK, K2, YO, K2, YO, K2, K2tog           4

Continue working these 6 rows until desired leg           2
length is desired. (For the pair shown, I knit 6
repeats, and each sock weighs 1.3 oz)           1

Heel Flap:
After finishing row 6 of pattern on the back needle, turn work over to begin the heel flap, working back and
forth. Continue working in pattern stitch, purling all knit rows.

Work 3 repeats (18 rows) of the pattern stitch, ending

on row 1.

Heel Turn
1- Sl 1, P15 sts, P2tog, P1, turn

2-Sl 1, K4, SSK, K1, turn

3-Sl 1, P to 1 st before gap, P2tog, P1, turn

4- Sl 1, K to 1 st before gap, K2tog, K1, turn

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all sts on needle are knit,

ending on row 4.

Heel Gusset: (get your spare DPN handy!)

Using a crochet hook and the spare double pointed
needle, pick up the stitches along the edge of the
heel flap, stopping when you reach the front
needle. Transfer the stitches on the DPN to the back
needle. (the one used for working the heel).

Work row 1 from pattern stitch on front needle,

across the foot.

Using a crochet hook and the spare DPN, pick up the stitches along the heel flap. Hold these stitches on the
DPN, and knit to the front needle. Work row 2 on the front needle. Now transfer the stitches on the DPN to the
back needle, and *knit to last 3 on back needle. K2tog, K1.( This begins the decreasing round.) Continue in
pattern stitch for the front needle. K1, SSK, K to end of back needle. Continue pattern on front needle. K to end
of round.*
Repeat the decreasing pattern until 30 sts remain on back needle:

(Just as in DPN sock knitting, the round begins with the K2tog on the right side of the foot, so this will be the “2nd
half” of the back needle. You can also think of these 15 sts as “needle 1”, and the first 15 sts as “needle 2”, etc.
if you are accustomed to knitting with 4-5 double points)

Foot:
Continue pattern stitch on front needle, knit all stitches on back needle.
Continue in this established pattern until sock measures 2 inches less than the intended length.

Toe:
1- K around to last 3 stitches on back needle, K2tog, K1
K1 SSK, K to last 3 stitches on front needle, K2tog, K1
K1, SSK, K to end of back needle

2- K front and back needle

Repeat these 2 rounds until 16 sts remain on front and back needle.
Wound round 1 until 8 sts remain on front and back needle.

Kitchener stitch toe, rinse, and repeat. 
