Let me introduce myself.


My name is R Agus Suryahadi, I am 59 years old, father of 2 children.
My expertise is as a Helicopter Engineer with more than 25 years of experience.
After I retired at the age of 50 in 2016, I then studied at Pancasakti University majoring in English
Education in 2020.
Previously, I studied Mechanical Engineering at IKIP Bandung in 1984.
Introduction

1. The Headline News


A Headlines News is a concise and attention-grabbing summary of the main point or
topic of a news article or story. It is typically displayed prominently at the top of the
article, often in larger font or boldface, to capture the reader's attention and convey
the essence of the story quickly.
According to David Crystal (1987, p. 388), “The Headlines News is a unique piece
of writing specifically for written media. Undoubtedly, this is the most creative field
of journalistic writing.
“In some ways, the Headlines News can be equated with poetry, because there are
several parts that are linguistically related to poetry.” (Sheda Isani, Of headlines &
headlinese 2011).
“Headlines News are almost always the first thing that catches a reader’s eye. They
are the hook, the reason a reader chooses to dive into a story rather than keep
scrolling.” (Alexandra Sharp, What is Headlines 2020).

2. The Headlinese
Sometimes the Headlines News is intentionally misspelled or with its own spelling to
get attention and have a characteristic. In English-language Newspapers, there are
separates provision that regulates the grammar in writing Headlines, known as
“Headlinese”. Headlinese is an informal term for the abbreviated style of Newspaper
Headlines, a register characterized by short words, abbreviations, clichés, noun
stacking, wordplay, present-tense verbs, and ellipses.
Nordquist say...“‘HEADLINESE combinations are not in themselves sentences,' said
linguist Otto Jespersen, 'and often cannot be directly supplemented so as to form
articulate sentences: they move, as it were, on the fringe of ordinary grammar' ". A

3. The Jakarta Post


The Jakarta Post is a leading English-language daily newspaper in Indonesia, well-
known for its comprehensive coverage of local and international news. It was first
published on April 25, 1983, and has since become a crucial source of news for
English-speaking residents and expatriates in Indonesia, as well as an essential
resource for anyone interested in Indonesian current affairs.

4. Headlinese Type
a. Abbreviated type Headlinese: Headlines that heavily rely on abbreviations to
convey information in a succinct manner.
b. Condensed type Headlinese: Headlines characterized by the use of condensed
phrases or omission of unnecessary words to save space and capture attention.
c. Present Tense Verb Headlinese: Present tense verbs indicating ongoing or recent
events.
d. Impactful type Headlinese: Headlines that prioritize impactful words or phrases
to evoke emotion or curiosity in readers.
e. Informative type Headlinese: Headlines that focus on clarity and provide
essential information in a straightforward manner.

1. For Teacher
Increase knowledge of skills and basic knowledge of writing titles for teachers, so that
in the teaching and learning process, teachers can create learning topic titles so that
students are more interested in following the lesson.
2. For Other Researcher.
Researchers can use the findings of this research as a basis for further research
regarding how to write titles effectively and efficiently.

Mass media refers to all forms of media designed to reach and communicate with a
large audience mass. This includes print media (such as newspapers and magazines),
electronic media (such as radio news platforms), as well as outdoor media (such as
billboards and advertising). “Mass media plays a crucial role in disseminating
information, conveying messages, shaping public opinion, and influencing social

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
In this research, the Writer use :

Therefore, the author chose the Place related to this research in Bekasi City, West
Java.

TECHNIQUE AND PROCEDURE OF COLLECTING THE DATA.

from the online archives for the one-month period from August 1, 2023, to August
31, 2023. Each Headlines News, along with its publication date and
section/category, will be recorded in a structured dataset.

The biography of “THE JAKARTA POST” Newspaper.


The Jakarta Post was founded on April 25, 1983, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The
establishment of The Jakarta Post was a collaborative effort by four prominent
Indonesian media organizations: Suara Karya, Kompas, Sinar Harapan, and Tempo.
The initiative was spearheaded by then-Minister of Information Ali Murtopo, who
