VISUAL MEMORY

Visual memory describes the relationship between perceptual processing and

the encoding, storage ad retrieval of the resulting neural representations.
Visual memory occurs over a broad time range spanning from eye
movements to years in order to visually navigate to a previously visited
location. Visual memory is a form of memory which preserves some
characteristics of our senses pertaining to visual experience. We are able to
place in memory visual information which resembles objects, places, animals
or people in a mental image.
The experience of visual memory is also referred to as the mind’s eye through
which we can retrieve form our memory a mental image of original objects,
places, animals or people. Visual short-term memory is the capacity for
holding a small amount of visual information in mind in an active, readily
available state for a short period of time (usually no more than 30 seconds).
Although visual short-term memory is essential for the execution of a wide
array of perceptual and cognitive functions, and is supported by and
extensive network of brain regions, its storage capacity is severely limited.
Visual short-term memory storage is mediated by distinctive posterior brain
mechanisms, such that capacity is determined both by a fixed number of
objects and by object complexity.
What type of memory is visual memory? Visual memory is a type of sensory
memory: we briefly keep the image of what we see and once the information
has been processed, we either replace it with a new stimulus, or we keep it in
memory to “rescue” it in the future.

Association exercise

Association exercise is the ability to relate visual concept in a logical and

meaningful way.
The objective of this work is for the child to be able to associate a sample
image with another with which it is related and that is next to t others with
which it is not related. A deficit in this area can lead to learning difficulties
that can be evidences in deficiencies in reading, writing and mathematical
ability. It is the ability to relate visual concepts in a logical and meaningful
way.
The exercises of association of different objects allow people to learn to
distinguish colors, shapes, etc. but is also help0s them to build associations of
a rigid type. That is, there are some ways of associating that are easier to
learn. For example, those that are related to sounds; when we ask people,
after listening to different audios, to differentiate those that are from nature
(the sound of a bird, for example) and those that are sounds from the city (a
car horn, for example).
However, there are there are other associations that are more complicated
for people since they require prior learning and not just experience.

Drawing Series

A new study shows that drawing is superior to activities such as reading or

writing because it forces the person to process information in multiple ways:
visually, kinesthetically, and semantically.
Across a series of experiments, researchers found drawing information to be
a powerful way to boost memory, increasing recall by nearly double. In an
early experiment, they asked undergraduate students to study lists of
common terms _ words like truck and pear_ and then either write down or
illustrate those words. Importantly, the benefits of drawing were not
dependent on the students’ level of artistic talent, suggesting that this
strategy may work for all students, not just ones who are able to draw well.
List of numerals

Sequential visual memory or numeral list is used to memorize numbers. It is

said that it is much easier to memorize numbers if we see them than if we
hear them. Visual memory with numbers is the ability to remember
information that has been received visually.
We usually talk about immediate recall (4-5 seconds) of all the details of a
visual element and being able to find these details from a selection of
elements. This involves being able to hold a mental image of a sequence of
letters, numbers, words, objects, shapes, etc.
Problems in this area can mean difficulty remembering the correct sequences
of the letter that make up word or phrases.
A person with visual memory difficulties may:
 Misread words.
 Has difficulty copying the board, learning letters or numbers.
 They have difficulty following directions or locating objects.
Sequential memory for the order of letters in words and the order of words in
a sequence are important for reading and spelling.
To help you learn what it is to memorize, we can look for games where the
number positions go in ascending order in games to visually memorize the
sequence of numbers to play online.
