Script for Dr. Micah Cabatu: Introduction of Guest Speaker

Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed faculty, proud parents, and the remarkable graduates of the
Class of 2024, it is my honor to introduce a distinguished guest to give a special message to the
Class.

Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go is known for his unwavering dedication to public
service. He started his career as a personal aide to then-Mayor Duterte, eventually becoming his
Special Assistant to the President when Duterte assumed the presidency. Elected to the Senate in
2019, Senator Bong Go has been a staunch advocate for healthcare reform, disaster resilience,
and social welfare. He played a crucial role in the establishment of Malasakit Centers, which
provide a one-stop-shop for medical and financial assistance in hospitals across the Philippines.
His legislative agenda focuses on improving the lives of Filipinos through accessible healthcare,
efficient government services, and disaster preparedness.

Speaking on his behalf, is a man whose dedication to pediatric healthcare, public health
advocacy, and innovative use of social media has touched countless lives—Dr. Richard Mata.

Dr. Mata is a distinguished pediatrician and a former consultant for the World Health
Organization Philippines and the Department of Health on dengue. His relentless commitment
to combating dengue has garnered widespread recognition, earning him resolutions of support
from city councilors in both Davao City and Panabo City.

As an online health advocate with over 2.4 million followers on social media, Dr. Mata has
leveraged digital platforms to spread vital health information, making a significant impact in the
realm of public health education. His influence and dedication to creating meaningful content
earned him a place in the Top 100 Content Creators of 2023.

Dr. Mata’s academic journey began at Ateneo de Davao University, where he completed his
elementary and college education, earning a BS in Biology in 1993. He then pursued his medical
degree at Davao Medical School Foundation, graduating in 1997, and completed his pediatric
residency training at San Pedro Hospital in 2001. Further enhancing his expertise, he earned a
Master’s in Healthcare Administration from St. Jude College in Manila in 2015.

His exemplary work has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Health and
Lifestyle Magazine National Exemplar Award in 2017, the Heroes of Davao by Edge Newspaper
in 2014, and the Outstanding Alumnus of the Davao Medical School Foundation. Dr. Mata also
showcased his innovative spirit by securing second place at the 1st eHealth Summit contest in
2015 and third place at the Fiki Indonesia Mobile Health Contest in 2016.

Dr. Mata's contributions have been featured in the DOST website, highlighting his significant
impact on public health and community service.

With a heart full of compassion and a spirit driven by his evangelical Christian faith, Dr. Mata
continues to serve his community both in Davao City, where he resides, and at his clinic in Good
Shepherd Hospital, Panabo City.

Please join me in welcoming the inspirational and dedicated Dr. Richard Mata.
