Preliminary Activities
Prayer
Before we start, let us pray first.
Andrea, kindly lead the prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by
thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us
the day our daily bread. And forgive us our
sins, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Amen.

Greetings
Today is another day full of learning. Good morning,
class!
Good morning, Sir!

Please, be seated.
One significant thing that I want to impose in my class,
on all my students is to not be afraid of making
mistakes; make them because they will be corrected by
people, and you will learn from that. You should always
remember that you are in school, a student who is still
learning tons of things, which is why it is really okay to
make mistakes because you know perfection is boring
and it offers no thrill at all. However, from that idea of
making mistakes, you should also digest that it is not
okay to repeat your mistakes multiple times and let your
mistakes dictate what you are capable of. Well, if you
make a mistake, take it, take the consequences, and
learn from them, and that is how you improve as a
person, carpi diem!

Okay, class?
Yes, Sir!
Alright, it seems that everything is in order, and the
classroom is clean, which is good. Just a reminder, as
future professionals, a clean and organized classroom is
always part and a reflection of what kind of
professionals you are in the future.

Checking of Attendance
Let’s check your attendance. Is there any absent today
in your section?
Sir, everyone is present today.
It is good to know that you have complete attendance
today.

Review
A Blast From the Past
Last time, we discussed the topic about parallelism.
Again, is parallelism, Mia?
Sir, parallelism means your sentence is
grammatically equal.

Very good, Mia.

Again, parallelism occurs when all the words and
phrases in your sentence follow the same pattern.

Do you have any questions or clarifications about your

last topic?
None, Sir!
Lesson Proper
Let’s warm-up our minds!
Before we delve into our topic for today, let us have
some game as it is connected to our new lesson for
today.

Okay, we will divide this class into two groups, count

from 1 to 2. The mechanics of our game is that you will
be going to choose a piece of paper in this box that
contains various songs. The point of this class is that
you will be going to complete the missing words in the
songs and the twist of our game is that after you
complete them you need to sing the song that you
randomly picked in this box. You need to sing the song
together with your groupmates, or you can choose one
representative in your group who will sing the song.

Are we clear, class?

Yes, Sir!
Okay, welcome to our game, “Sing me when you
complete me!”

Group 1, you will be the first group who will play our
game. You can now choose a paper in this box.
Sir, number 4.
Number 4 is, “I’ll Never Go” by Erick Santos. For 45
seconds, complete the song.
“I will never go far away from you,
Even the sky will tell you,
That I need you so
For this is all I know
I will never go far away from you.”
That is a great performance, Group 1!

Next is group 2. You can now choose a paper in this

box.
Sir, number 8.
Number 8 is, “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars.
For 45 seconds, complete the song.
“Oh, her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shinin'
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her tryin'
She's so beautiful and I tell her everyday
Yeah, I know, I know
When I compliment her, she won't believe
me
And it's so, it's so
Sad to think that she don't see what I see
But every time she asks me, "Do I look
okay?" I say.”
Very good, Group 2!

Again, group 1 you can now choose a paper in this box.

Sir, number 5.
Number 5 is, “Rewrite the Star by Zac Efron and
Zendaya. For 45 seconds, complete the song.

What do you think is the best word/s that could describe

her. Yes, Girls?
“What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart,
You'll be the one I was meant to find.
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one could say what we get to be
So why don't we rewrite the stars?
And maybe the world could be ours,
tonight.”

Good job, Group 1!

Lastly, group 2 you can now choose a paper in this box.

Sir, number 1.
Number 1 is, “Driver’s License” By Olivia Rodrigo. For
45 seconds, complete the song.

“And you're probably with that blonde girl.

Who always made me doubt
She's so much older than me
She's everything I'm insecure about.
Yeah, today, I drove through the suburbs.”
That is a nice performance, Group 2!

Okay, very good everyone!

It seems that you easily gave those songs proper words
for them convey their meanings. Now, I have a question
to all of you. Based on the words you used to complete
those songs, what do you think is our new lesson for
today?

Yes, Mark!
Sir, I think our new lesson for today is
related to pronouns, since we put I, me,
she, he, you, us, we, ours, and other
pronouns to complete the song.
That is correct. I, me, she, he, ours, they, us, and we are
some examples of pronouns, and our new topic for
today is related to pronouns.

Presentation of the Lesson

Our topic for today will be focusing on reflexive
pronouns and intensive pronouns.

Goals of the Day

As you absorb all the learnings for today’s lesson, here
are our goals:
a. distinguish the difference between
Intensive and Reflexive Pronoun;
b. justify the significance of learning
pronouns; and
c. employ intensive and reflexive pronouns
in a sentence.

Discussion
Overview of the Lesson
We all know that everything that is in our surroundings,
or almost everything that we see with our naked eyes is
a noun, that is it represents people, places, things, and
ideas. But there is part of the speech that can actually
substitute the noun, or it can take the place of the noun
in our sentence, and that is a pronoun. Just like nouns,
pronouns are of various kinds. Two of these are
reflexive and intensive pronouns.

The words Myself, Herself, Himself, Yourself, Itself,

Ourselves, Yourselves, and Themselves are examples of
reflexive pronouns. But, what is a reflexive pronoun,
Anna?
We put -self or -selves in the personal
pronouns.
Exactly!
Read the definitions of Reflexive pronouns, Jerome.
Reflexive pronouns are those ending with -
self or -selves. These kinds of pronouns are
used to “refer back” to the subject of the
sentence.
Reflexive pronouns are the words that end with -self- or
-selves. When we are talking about singular form, we
add -self at the end of the word. But, when we put -
selves at the end of the word, it means that we are
referring to the plural form of the word. We use
reflexive pronouns to point back to the subject in the
sentence. We are using these pronouns to “refer back”
to the subject in the sentence.

Please read the examples using reflexive pronouns,

Joanna.
Charles saw himself in the mirror.
What is the subject and the reflexive pronoun in this
sentence, Maon?
The subject in this sentence is Charles, and
“himself” is the reflexive pronoun.
Very good, Maon!
Who did Charles see in the mirror? himself, not his
mom, not his friends, not his brother or sister, and
obviously not a ghost. The reflexive pronoun “himself”
in this sentence is pointing back to the subject.

Here is another example of a reflexive pronoun in a

sentence. Read this slide, Darius.
Chloe gave herself a gift.
What is the subject in this sentence, and what reflexive
pronoun is used in this sentence, Cacho?
The subject in this sentence is Chloe and
the reflexive pronoun that is used is
“herself.”
That is correct!
No one gives her a gift but herself. Meaning, we are
referring back to the subject, which is Chloe.

Jonathan, read the next example.

She talks to herself when she is alone.
Again, we are not talking about other people, but we are
just referring back to the subject, which is “she”. There
is only one person that we are referring to.

For the last example before you construct your own

sentence using reflexive pronouns. Feidan, read this
example.
They finished all the food by themselves.
In this example, since our subject is plural, we are also
going to use the plural form of the reflexive pronoun.

Now, could you give a sentence using a reflexive

pronoun, Gabriel?
John blames no one but himself.
That is correct!
How about, Micheal?
I taught myself to play the guitar.
Do you have any questions or clarification about
reflexive pronouns?
None
Very good, everyone!
The words that we used in the reflexive pronoun can
also function or act as an intensive pronoun.

Read the definition of intensive pronoun, Daniel.

Intensive pronoun emphasizes the subject
that we are pointing in the sentence.
For you to better grasp the idea here, intensive pronouns
can be placed or put after the noun or pronoun it
emphasizes, or after the object of the verb.

Take a look at this example. Andrea, read this example.

The manager herself spoke to the rude
customer.
In this sentence, the word “herself” is an intensive
pronoun or it acts as an intensive pronoun because it
emphasizes the subject in the sentence. And the subject
of this sentence is the manager. If you look at the
position of “herself”, it is placed right after the noun.
Thus, no one spoke to the rude customer but the
manager herself only.
(Students are listening attentively)
Read the second example, Kessha.
The florist will deliver the flowers himself.
As you can see in this sentence, the intensive pronoun is
placed after the flower, and the flower in this sentence is
the object verb of deliver.

Are we clear?
Yes, sir!
Now, how do you know if it is a reflexive pronoun or an
intensive pronoun, Mariel?
Sir, it is a reflexive pronoun when it is
placed after the verb, while it is an
intensive pronoun when it is placed after
the noun or pronouns, or after the object of
the verb.
That is correct!
Another way to identify is that when intensive pronouns
can be removed, and the sentence still makes sense.
Read this example, George.
You yourself can do it!
If we remove the word yourself in this example, the
sentence still makes sense.

Are we clear?
Yes, sir!
Could you please read this part, Hanna?
Reflexive pronouns cannot be removed
because the sentence will not make sense.
Read the example, Dannie.
He saw himself in the mirror.
If we are we going remove the word himself in this
example, the sentence will not make sense anymore.

Do you have any questions or clarifications about

reflexive pronouns and intensive pronouns?
Sir, none!
If you do not have any questions, then let us proceed
with the Checking for Understanding.
Application
Alright, let us answer the following questions.
Directions: Read the sentences and identify if the
underlined words are reflexive pronouns or intensive
pronouns. Write your answers on a ¼ sheet of paper.
This is only good for 5 minutes.
Here are the sentences.
1. You should give yourself a chance.
2. I will call them myself to make sure everything is
perfect.
3. Why can’t you buy yourself something special?
4. Kuya Boy himself will interview you.
5. Donna spoke to the landlord herself.
6. I myself gave the food to Jenny.
7. They themselves will face the judge.
8. They will face the judge themselves.
9. Reah blamed no one but herself.
10. Cong bought himself a god.
(Students are answering the questions)
Time is up, exchange your paper with your seatmates.

(Checking of papers)

It seems that all of you really understood the

lesson.
Generalization
Analysis
I have a last question for all of you. What do you think
is the importance of reflexive and intensive pronouns or
the pronouns in general, Mary?
Pronouns can help us to avoid repetition of
the subject in our sentences or paragraphs.
Very good, Mary!
Pronouns are used so that our language is not
cumbersome with the same nouns being repeated over
and over in a paragraph. Learning reflexive and
intensive pronouns can also help other people to
understand precisely the subjects that we are pointing
out.

Are we clear?
Yes, Sir!
Do you have any questions or clarifications about our
topic?
None, Sir!

IV. Evaluation
Unboxing Performance Task
For our last activity, we will be going to divide your class into (6) groups, the point here is, that
you will be going to construct sentences using the indicated words or pronouns that I will present
in your class. You may write your answer on one whole sheet of paper. This is only good for ten
(7) minutes. I will give each group 5 minutes to write all of their answers, and the remaining (2)
minutes are for your presentation. You will be graded based on the given criteria.

Directions: Imagine that you are a group of professional writers. Your goal is to construct
sentences using the different pronouns in a reflective and intensive form. After that, you need to
present your answers in front of your classmates. You will be graded based on your, ideas,
organization of thoughts, and grammar and punctuation.
Use the following pronouns in sentences as indicated.
