1.A Complete the poems.


Poem 1:
A: What's the matter?
What's wrong with you?
B: I've got a terrible cough, A runny nose, a bad sore throat.
A: I can't stay here. I'm off!
Poem 2:
A: My arms hurts, my legs hurt, I think I've got bad flu.
B: Have you got a temperature?
A: Yes, what can I do?
Poem 3:
A: I've got an awful headache.
B: My fingers hurt a lot.
A: My eyes are tired.
B: My backache 's bad.
A & B: We don't know what we've got!

2 A Read the situations and make a note of what the person


should/shouldn't do.
a) Situation: My arm hurts so I can't use my computer. I have to finish a report
by tomorrow.
You should rest your arm to avoid worsening the pain.
b) Situation: I've got terrible backache. I'm going on holiday tomorrow and I've
got two heavy bags to carry.
Ask someone for help or use a luggage cart or trolley to transport your bags.
c) Situation: I've got a headache and a bad sore throat. I've got an important
interview for a new job tomorrow.
You should rest, drink plenty of fluids, and consider taking pain relievers.
d) Situation: My leg hurts so I can't walk very far. I'm going out tomorrow night
and I want to dance.
Rest your leg, and avoid activities that could exacerbate the pain.
