CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

This chapter provides an overview of the methodologies used in the study,

including the data collection process, data analysis techniques, and tools employed. This

foundation supports the findings and discussions presented in subsequent chapters.

Research Method Used

The researchers used mixed methods combining both quantitative and qualitative

methodologies approaches in this study. It is employed to comprehensively understand

potential users' needs, preferences, and anticipated interactions with the Escape app,

aiding in its development and optimization for effective emotional regulation.

Participants in the Study

The study involved student participants from Taguig City University (TCU),

encompassing a diverse group of students. Participants were selected through a

recruitment process that included online announcements and reaching out to them. All

participants provided informed consent prior to taking part in the study and were briefed

on its objectives and procedures.

Research Instrument

In this study, we utilized an online and physical questionnaire as the primary

research instrument to gather comprehensive data from potential users of the Escape

app. We focused on assessing users' perceptions, experiences, and expectations

regarding emotional regulation and the potential role of the Escape app in addressing

their needs.

Data Gathering Procedure

In this study, students from Taguig City University (TCU) filled out a survey, both

online and on paper. This survey used likert scale to gather information on how students

felt about managing emotions and how the Escape app might help.

Statistical Treatment

The collected data was used to analytically assess students' responses to the

questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were employed to summarize the basic features of

the data, including participants' demographics, perceptions, and experiences.

Weighted Mean

The weighted mean was utilized to determine the average response of students to

various items in the questionnaire, considering the different levels of importance

assigned to each item. This method ensures that the analysis accurately reflects the

relative importance of different questionnaire items from the students' perspectives. By

applying the weighted mean, we obtained a more accurate and representative measure

of students' responses, allowing for a detailed and meaningful interpretation of the data

collected through the questionnaire.
