The Crucial role of Technology

The development of technology towards digital rapidly increases. The presence of

technology has a huge influence on human life, for example, it can improve communication,

virtual social lives, and better information access. Humans are becoming increasingly

dependent on technology because technology is one of the tools that can help most human

life, such as, can save much information, easier to buy some items, etc. Some people argue

that too depending on technology can make a bad impact, especially on children. However,

when the COVID-19 pandemic is over, humans became more dependent on technology

because when the pandemic situation every person needs to use technology for school, work,

and other.

Some people argue that there is no way that technology is used for almost every

aspect of our lives. They still have a mindset that they can do it better manually but in this

era, technology can help us in any way. There is no question that technology is invading

nearly every aspect of our lives now, from the way people interact to the way relax, and stay

informed. While certain advances in technology are mostly seen as something many people

are optimistic about, there is a question of whether we are now completely dependent on

technology, and can do without it. Some fears being too reliant on gadgets will completely

change society as we know it, and it may be too late to prevent this from happening. Not only

that, but now the human view of technology has also changed. In the past, children were

restricted by their parents from playing with smartphones, but now, like it or not, parents

cannot forbid their children to use technology, especially smartphones. This case proves how

big the differences in the use of technology in the past and now. From World economic

forum article, new communities and alternative media came the massive growth of social

media. In 2004, fewer than 1 million people were on Myspace; Facebook had not even

launched. By 2018, Facebook had more 2.26 billion users with other sites also growing to

hundreds of millions of users (World Economic Forum).

People invented technology to do matters greater and today technology is altering our

lives each second. We may tell that human experience and engineering can not be separated.

We have technology dependent in our daily life and the need for technology keep on

increasing. People use technology for traveling, educating, and communicating. For traveling

people nowadays can use an airplane to shorten the time to their destination. In education,

students can use technology for searching for additional lessons on the internet, and

technology is very helpful in terms of communication. People from different cities or

countries can communicate just from their cellphones. When it comes to technology, we

“need to be comfortable enough with technology tools and services that we can help point our

patrons in the right direction, even if we aren’t intimately familiar with how the device

works” (King 11). The development of technology has changed our way to communicate

with other people. People used to have to talk to each other more in person to communicate.

With the development of technology, we were eventually able to contact those who lived far

away from us via phone calls, emails, and texts. With a few exceptions, we can now

communicate anyone in the world at any time of day with the press of a button (being in a

place without Internet or phone service). Although this may make sense in theory, the

fundamentals of effective communication have been ignored. Consider this: have you ever

received a text message rejection from someone? (Nair).

Up until now, the advancement of science has brought civilization into a new stage,

one that makes use of technology-derived tools. People frequently lose their jobs as a result

of the shrinking usage of human labor because their jobs are being replaced by machinery or

other forms of automation. But, some people also gain a job from their technology skills. If

people can use technology well and take advantage of its development, it is an advantage for

them. Computers can be used for communication and information delivery, including web

surfing. People can communicate and find many types of information online. This

information technology application can be used to help people find information for their

personal lives, such as details on their health, interests, and spirituality. In addition to

providing benefits, it turns out that information and communication technology equipment

also harms its users. These negative impacts in the previous sentence arise as a wrong result

or irresponsible use of those who use them. Lakshmi states in his article that “the use of

digital technologies can lead to technology addiction, a major mental health issue that can

ruin a child's health, social life, and relationships with friends and family. There is a

connection between social networks and depression/anxiety, according to several systematic

reviews. Children who use technology excessively may be more susceptible to mental health

problems, such as attention deficit disorder, poor creativity, language development delays,

social and emotional development delays, and addiction to digital gadgets” (Lakshmi).

In conclusion, even though technology has negative impacts that may make people

lose their job. However, technology also has positive effects in that communication will be

easier and make a possible to reach everybody in the world. Therefore it all comes back to

each person on how to handle technology. Regarding humans who are dependent on

technology, from my perspective I think it is normal for people in this generation to use

technology more often than before because technology has entered into our daily life. People

must be able to keep up with technology development if they want to advance in the future.
