This table gives certain percentile points of the income distribution as estimated from the Survey of Person
(SPI) for each survey year shown. The table only covers individuals who have some liability to income tax.
The percentile points have been independently calculated on total income before tax and total income afte
Total income is the sum of all income subject to tax for the year. For most types of income this is approxim
as income that is earned in the tax year but this is not the case for self-employment income (see the notes
for 3.9 and 3.10) and some other kinds of income.
The grossing factors were revised in the 2018 to 2019 tax year to better reflect the population of individuals
Self Assessment returns. Please refer to the supporting documentation and commentary for the 2018 to 20
