Simple Future Tense: How it is formed and


examples of how it is used.

‘Will’ and ‘Be Going To’: How do we use these two


phrases?

happen in the future.
Simple Future Tense

What is it?
The simple future tense is used to talk about
actions or events that will start and end in the
future.
How Do We Form the Simple Future Tense?

The simple future tense is often formed using the


auxiliary verb "will" (or "shall" in some cases)
followed by the base form of the main verb.

The structure of the simple future tense is as follows:

Subject + will + base form of verb


Positive Simple Future Sentences

● I will travel to Paris next month.

● I will study for another semester in April.

● I will buy that top when I get paid.


Negative Simple Future Sentences

Subject + will not (won't) + base form of the verb

● She won’t attend the meeting tomorrow.

● He will not fly to Australia.

● They won’t go out at the weekend.


Simple Future Questions

Will + subject + base form of the verb + ?

● Will they arrive on time for the event?

● Will she want a cup of tea?

● Will he enjoy the evening do you think?


Predictions and Future Certainties

The simple future tense is often used to make


predictions about future events or to express
something that is certain to happen.

It will rain tomorrow.

He will graduate next year.

It will get very stormy later.


Spontaneous Decisions

The simple future tense can be used to express


decisions made at the moment of speaking.

I'm thirsty; I think I will have a glass of water.

I’m tired, I’ll go home now.

I’m cold, I will try to find a jacket.


Offers, Requests, and Invitations

The simple future tense can be used to make offers,


requests, or invitations.

I will help you with your project.

Will you come to the party?

Will you be able to arrive at 8pm?


Intentions and Plans

The simple future tense can be used to talk about


intentions or plans for the future.

They will start a new business next year.

I will become a dog owner very soon.

We will get more motivation today.


Conditional Sentences (First Conditional)

The simple future tense is often used in the first


conditional, which expresses a possible future
action based on a condition.

If it rains tomorrow, we will stay indoors.

If I don’t pass the test, I will have to retake.

If she doesn’t come back soon, I will text her.


‘Will’ and ‘Be Going to’

Both "will" and "be going to" are used to express


the simple future tense.
‘Will’

"Will" is a commonly used auxiliary verb to express


actions or events that will happen in the future. It is
used in a variety of contexts, including predictions,
spontaneous decisions, offers, requests, and
intentions.
‘Will’

"Will": When you use "will" to express the future,


you're generally making a prediction or talking about
an action that isn't necessarily based on current
evidence. It's often used for more general or
hypothetical situations.
Examples

Prediction: "I think it will rain later today."

Spontaneous Decision: "I forgot my umbrella; I will


take a taxi."
Offer: "I will help you with your homework."

Request: "Will you pass me the salt, please?"

Intention: "She will study abroad next year."


‘Be Going to’

"Be going to" is another way to express the simple


future tense. It is often used to talk about intentions,
plans, and predictions based on present evidence or
circumstances.

Subject + be + going to + infinitive


Examples

Intention: "I am going to start exercising regularly."

Plan: "They are going to visit their grandparents


this weekend."

Prediction based on evidence: "Look at those dark


clouds; it's going to rain soon."
