Demolition Method Statement for Building Structures

Demolition requires very careful and safe method to make sure that persons involved, and other
related parties are protected from any hazards. Demolition may affect the public, workers and adjacent
structures. Therefore, a well-defined procedure is necessary that will be strictly followed during the
demolition work.
The following method statement describes the procedure and equipment/materials required for the
demolition of the existing building/structures/services. The equipment’s and material that may be
involved in demolition project works are listed below:

 Hand tools
Survey Before Commencement: Before starting the demolition work, all available drawings and
documents will be studied and carried out a thorough survey and examination of the building, structure or
services to be demolished.
Record of Unrestrained Works and Services/Existing Damages: All the details with record drawings
will be provided to client, showing the level, size, position and contents of any abandoned services,
foundations, underground chambers, wells, underground tanks or any other work discovered during the
demolition.
Any building, structure or services to be retained at site and any adjoining property or services liable to be
affected be demolition shall be examined before demolition and any existing cracks or other evidence of
damage shall be noted.
Disconnection/Discoveries of services:
Before starting demolition, the contractor shall arrange with the client and statutory authorities, if
applicable for the locating and marking of the position of all known services affected by the work and for
the proper disconnection of their mains supplies and cables.
If during demolition, live services are encountered which had not been previously identified, the work
shall be stopped immediately in the vicinity and all reasonable steps shall be taken.

Local Authorities Approval:
All the requirements of Local and Statutory Authorities regarding notification of demolition works shall
be complied.
Method Statement for Building Demolition

 Temporary fence will be constructed and area around the structure to be demolished will be
barricaded properly.
 Precautionary signs/warning notices will be erected and maintained to control access in the
area during demolishing process.
 Demolition works will be carried out by using jack hammer and other associated
machinery/equipment.
 Old buildings, structures and superficial obstructions shall be demolished, broken up and
disposed of by a sequence of stages.
 Broken materials resulting in demolition to be cleared and removed by using bucket mounted
on excavator before carrying out the next step demolition.
 Construction manager shall ensure the hacking activities has been planned as per all methods
and procedures.
 Edges of the are under demolition will be marked by the surveyor and cut by using grinder.
 Area to be hacked to be isolated and accessibility should be restricted.
 Construction manager and site engineers shall be responsible for supervision and control of
work in the assessment of the risk involved and in the method demolition to be used.

the existing services.
 Remove rubbish, debris and surplus material regularly and kep the site clean and tidy.
Mechanical Lifting Operation:
All the regulations regarding lifting shall be complied and ensured the adequacy of training and
experience of crane drivers and other operators.
Disposal of Demolished Material/Site Clearance:
All the surplus materials and waste products arising from the demolition and site clearance shall be
disposed in accordance with relevant requirements.
