(b) Given that 𝑓(𝑥) = √2𝑥 2 +1
lies within the boundary 3 ≤ x ≤ 5. What is the mean value and
the root mean square value of the function?
4. (a) Determine the stationary values of the function and distinguish between them
f(x,y) = x4 + 4x2y2 – 2x2 + 2y2 – 10
(b) Find the value of a parallelopiped whose co-terminal edges are given as
A = 3i + 4j; B = 2i + 3j + 4k; C = 4j + 5k
(c) Given that f(x) = 3x(4x2 + 3)5 lies within the boundary 2 ≤ x ≤ 6. Find the mean value of the
function.

SECTION C

5. Given the following set of linear equations:

X1 + 2x2 + 5x3 + x4 = 4
3x1 – 4x2 + 3x3 – 2x4 = 7
4x1 + 3x2 + 2x3 – x4 = 1
X1 – 2x2 – 4x3 – x4 = 2
a. Write the above set of equations in matrix form.
b. Write down the augmented matrix Ab.
c. Determine the rank of A and Ab. Where A is the coefficient matrix of the above equations.
d. Determine the consistency of the above set of equations.
e. Solve the above set of equations using Gaussian elimination method.
