AI In English Learning:

Understanding According to Experts

In today's digital era, the field of education has witnessed a profound transformation
significantly through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With its potential to
revolutionize various sectors, AI has emerged as a tool that promises to enhance the teaching and
learning experience. According to Mehrotra (2019), Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a computer
science technology that explores the analysis and development of smart machines and apps.
Language teaching , in particular, faces many challenges in making ends meet diverse learners.
Hence, exploring the effectiveness of AI in teaching English becomes very important to express
new opportunities in language education. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an increasingly
important topic in education, especially in English language learning. Experts in this field have
provided diverse views on the meaning of AI in the context of English language learning. In this
essay, we will explore several views from experts regarding the concept of AI in English
language learning.

Experts have recognized the potential of AI in education, highlighting his ability to


provide support that engages students, and delivers proper feedback. Dr. (Johnson, 2019)
However, although interest in AI applications is growing increasing, there is still a research gap
regarding its effectiveness specifically in the context of English language teaching.

In recent years, AI has received great attention in English language teaching, offering an
innovative approach to improving learning experience. AI applications have diversified in
various aspects of teaching language, providing new opportunities for personalized and adaptive
learning. According to Wang and Hu (2020), “AI technology is currently being used in teaching
English to support language learning, facilitate communication, and provide
feedback to students."

Teaching and learning English also has become easier with the development of
technology and digital platforms. These now offer the opportunity to improve English
language skills. This means that if we have a machine for teaching English, perhaps we do not
need any English teachers in the classroom, or English education (Shin, 2018). Therefore,
English education need not be replaced by the Fourth Revolution. Instead of that the
development of an English class model using Artificial Intelligence should work in
collaboration with the English teaching and learning process. Language literacy and digital
literacy are a neat combination to improve global competence. Ribeiro (2020) states that
Artificial Intelligence in English Language Teaching (ELT) is the most realistic way English
language teachers can use it. English is one of the common world languages which has a
systematic grammatical structure.

Therefore, learning English has always been substantially difficult for ESL/EFL (English
as Second/Foreign Language) students (Mehrotra, 2019). Thus, the reform of English
teaching and learning can be effectively promoted through artificial intelligence machine
learning, intelligent search, and natural language processing (Wang, 2019). Related to the
explanation above, this research is to know the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to
investigate AI technologies in English Language Teaching (ELT).

From the views of these experts, it can be concluded that AI in English language learning
covers various concepts, ranging from the ability of computers to imitate human behavior in
communicating, to the use of technology to analyze and understand English, as well as being an
intelligent learning partner for students. By understanding these concepts, we can optimize the
potential of AI in increasing the effectiveness of English learning for all students.
