The circled are the daily topic questions, which are
changed daily in TMS:

The contents of “Speak to me” are for the student’s reference, which
are not included in the daily topic discussion. The teacher just need to
have a talk with the student based on the two given questions.

How to have the daily topic discussion?
• Enter the daily topic section by words like “Now let’s go to the
daily topic”, “Are you ready for the daily topic”, “Have you
prepared for the daily topic?”.
• Begin the daily topic discussion by some warm-up questions
prepared by the teacher, or asking the student the first daily
topic question in TMS directly.

Tips for a Good Daily Topic Discussion:
• Paraphrase the daily topic questions based on the student’s
comprehension when necessary.
• Give responses based on the student’s answer by follow-up
questions, or sharing your own opinions, experiences, feelings,
etc. to inspire the student to further the talk.
• Avoid asking questions in a robotic way: keep asking questions
ignoring the student’s answers.

• Pay attention to the student’s expressions, being mindful of

the sentence structure, usage of words, tense, logicality, etc.
and give guidance or corrections accordingly.

• Make adjustment based on the student’s response. When the

student find it hard to answer a question or doesn’t show any
interest in it, guide the student to think from a wider
perspective or change to another topic.

the textbook”, “Are you ready for the textbook”, “Shall we go
to the textbook now”.

textbook.

Tips for good textbook teaching:

• Be mindful of the student’s comprehension on the contents of
the textbook, give explanation of a word, phrase, or sentence
accordingly, and guide the student to put them into practice.
For example, the student just learned the word “fascinated”,
the teacher can ask the student to make a sentence with it.
The student might not know the structure “be fascinated
by…” , so proper guidance would be needed based on the
student’s response.

• Be clear of the goal of the lesson: What the student is
supposed to learn mainly from the lesson? How can the
teacher make the textbook learning efficient and productive?
When planning the lesson, it’s advisable for the teacher to list
an outline as guidance. Take Lesson 5 of Interchange 3 as an
example:

Grammar: collocation

be fascinated by…

PS. The time limit is not supposed to affect the quality of a class,
though it would make the teacher unable to finish a certain
lesson prepared. It’s ok to leave it for the next class. Most
importantly, the teacher should try to make the class an
effective one.
