FIELD STUDY 1- WORKSHEET # 7

PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING

Name of student: Paula Danielle I. Celis

Major: CPE

Resource Teacher: Ms. Gayle

OBSERVATION SHEET

PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING Teaching Behavior of the Teacher/ Learning

Behavior of the Learner as Proof of the
Application of Learning
1. Teachers’ knowledge of the subject matter This is very evident because she knows
when to cut the lesson and interact with the
is essential to the implementation of
student and then continue without any
important teaching tasks problem.
2. Active involvement of the learner enhances Student enjoys the way the teacher
discusses the subject, that is why every time
learning
there is a chance to exert their ideas, they do
so.
3. Interaction between teachers and students The teacher never forgets to get the students
involve. This is her way to keep their attention
is the most important factor in student
to make sure that they are learning
motivation and involvement something.
4. Students benefit from taking responsibility Those students who participates and listens
to class evidently are the ones who can
for their learning
participate and answer well during activities.
5. There are many roads to learning Some student learns through writing down,
some learn through listening and others learn
through doing actual work.
6. Expect more and you will achieve more Teacher sets goals for the students before
every class.

7. Learning is enhanced in an atmosphere of Having students that do not listen during

class cannot be avoided. So, without the
cooperation
cooperation of the students with their teacher,
they may have difficulty mastering the lesson.
8. Material must be MEANINGFUL The use of learning materials should be
meaningful and maximize to its use. For
example, we don’t use the TV to just show
PPT slides, we get more creative and make
mini films for students to enjoy.
9. Both teaching and learning are enhanced Teachers giving feedback on how the
by descriptive feedback students perform may help students find
things that they need improvements, same
goes to the teacher. The teacher should take
account of her students’ feedback in order to
improve his/her teaching style that will also
result to the improvement of the students’
learning process.
10. Critical feedback is only useful if the A teacher should be mindful of how he/she
will give feedback to his/her students
learner has alternatives to pursue
because one wrong use of word may affect
the student’s behavior or confidence in doing
something.
11. Time plus energy equals learning The time and energy put in by the teacher
and of course the student can result to a fun
and engageable experience which will benefit
both parties.
12. Experience usually improves teaching Through time, teachers also learn from their
students. They will eventually learn how to
handle things more confidently.

My Analysis:

1. What is the impact of the Resource Teacher’s observance of these principles on the
teaching-learning process and on the learner?
- Students learn more effectively because they can freely exchange ideas with their
classmates and the teacher. Also, students enjoy the discussion because the
teacher maximizes the use of instructional materials that caters the students’
learning capabilities which leads to them understanding the topic being taught.

2. Which learning principle was applied most? How?

- Active involvement of the learner enhances learning. I think this principle was applied
most because it was salient when I was observing. Before, during and after every
discussion the teacher made sure that the learners are involved, this is to make sure
that they have learned from the previous topic, that they are learning during
discussion and to know whether they have question about the topic.

3. Which learning principle was applied least or not at all?

- Experience usually improves teaching was the least applied for me. Because I think
this takes time.

4. Do you agree with these principles of learning? Or have you discovered that they are not
always, correct?
- I agree on most of it but I think number 10 can be improved. Giving critical feedback
on students is a must, but a teacher must make sure that the way they say it and
how they deliver the feedback does not sound like disappointed. It should be like
their telling their student that they believe that they can do more, that what their
doing right now is nothing compared to what they can actually do. Teachers should
be careful when doing this.

My Reflection: Which principles are important for you as a future educator? Discuss its
significance to you and your future profession.

These principles are all quite important but the ones that stood out for me are: First is
the mastery of the subject. When you are a teacher, you should be able to teach and explain the
matter to anyone of any age, that is when you know that you have mastered a subject. This is
important because what you impart to the students will forever be with them and they will surely
use for future purposes. As a teacher, we need to make sure that what we teach students are all
by the book. The second one is that we need to make our student actively involve before, during
and after every discussion. Evidently, this will help student learn more but for us teachers, we
can surely know what we need to improve on so we can enhance the learning and teaching
experience for us and the students. The last one for me is having descriptive feedback with one
another. Giving our students feedback will help them know where to focus and where to
improve, same goes to teachers. Knowing the student’s perspective on things will help us
improve.

My portfolio: Principles of Learning in My Own Words: (Cite at least five principles)

1. Learning is a process of actively constructing knowledge

- In this, teachers must know how to let their students explore on their own
through their guidance. Teachers should provide experience for the learner so
they can actively participate and create learnings by themselves.
2. Students construct knowledge and make it meaningful in terms of their prior
knowledge and experiences
- Teachers should help students use their prior knowledge and experience to
create new and meaningful information that they can learn from.
3. Learners have different ways of knowing and representing knowledge.
- In this, teachers must give students opportunities to present strategies of their
own. As educators, we must cater each students’ capabilities because this
may help them in their learning process.
4. Learners must see themselves as capable and successful.
- Teachers must give challenges that are appropriate for the learners, teachers
should also set goals and achievements for students to realize on their own
that they are capable and they can do more.
5. Reflection is an integral part of learning.
- Students should be able to reflect on their own learning process and
experiences, while teachers should help the students use these reflections to
understand themselves as learners and make connections with other
learnings.
