TITLE : INSTALL AND OPERATE PILOT CHECK VALVE IN HYDRAULIC

SYSTEM.

STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO :

1. Examine the structure of pilot check valve.

2. Build circuit on the workbench.
3. Operate the system.

BACK GROUND:

A pilot operated check valve performs the same function as a simple check valve. It
allows free flow in one direction and restricts all flow in all opposite direction. Different
springs can be chosen to obtain the desired cracking pressure.

COMPONENTS :

1. Power pack.
2. Pressure relief valve.
3. Reducing valve.
4. Pressure manifold.
5. Return manifold.
6. Pressure Gauge.
7. Pilot operated check valve.
8. Flow meter.

1. Examine the structure of  Examine the fig.1. to identify the function of each ports
pilot operated check valve. on the valve body.

Fig.1 Symbol of pilot operated check valve.

 Installed the pilot operated check valve cartridge into the

body of sequence valve.

a) Using the 7/8” open wrench, loosen the cartridge in

the sequence valve.

b) Remove the sequencing cartridge and store it in a

clean, safe location. A clean plastic bag is good.

c) Insert the pilot operated check valve cartridge

straight into the valve bore.

d) Using paper towel or a shop rag, push on disconnect

#1 while treading the cartridge into the valve body.

e) Hand tighten the hex nut. Then finish tightening with

the 7/8” wrench.

2. Build the circuit on the  Build the circuit shown in fig 2.

workbench.

3. Operated the system.  Turn on hydraulic power supply.

 Monitor the proper gauges and meters.

 Make a record of the data. Be sure to allow room for

additional data.

TEST FLOW RATE PRESSURE

 Turn off of the hydraulic power supply.

 Revise the circuit so that it matches the circuit shown in

fig.3. Turn the adjustment on the reducing valve fully
counter clock wise.

Fig 3. Added with reducing valve.

 Explain the operation of the portion of the circuit you

just added.

 Turn on the hydraulic power supply and record an

initial set of readings.

 Observe the in-line pressure gauge constantly while

increasing the setting on the pressure reducing valve.

 As soon as the check valve opens (in line pressure drops

and pump noise reduces drastically) take readings of the
system pressure gauge and flow meter. Add this data to
your table.

a) Explain the data.
