Powermanager - License activation

Powermanager ≥ V4 is based on Desigo CC uses the same licensing procedure. This is completely different to
the known process of Powermanager Classic (V2.x and V3.x).

Each installation requires a personalized “Activation ID” which must be used for license activating. For this
process an online and an offline activation is possible. For online activation an unrestricted internet access is
required one-time.

2 Online license activation

2.1 Connection test
Activation procedure requires unrestricted internet connection. This can be checked in LMU (License
Management Utility):

If this test fails, online activation is not possible!

2.2 Activation ID
Copy & Paste your personal Activation ID to LMU and add it. Activation is possible either via the “Entitlement ID”
or the “Activation ID”. The general procedure is identical, you just have to select the corresponding submenu in
the LMU. The following example screenshot shows the use of the “Activation ID”:

3 Online license return

To deactivate or remove a license it must be returned. For this also an unrestricted internet connection is
required.

If a license was successfully returned, it can be activated again by using the original Activation ID. By this way
also a moving of the license to another system is possible.

4 Offline license activation

If no internet connection is possible from the machine with installed Powermanager, the activation must be done
with a second machine where unrestricted internet access is available.

4.1 Create request file

Start LMU on the machine with installed Powermanager, insert your Activation-ID and create a license request
file:

Set location and filename of your choice:

Finally take a copy of the exported license request file and move it to the second system with unrestricted internet
access.

4.2 Install LMU on second system

Setup is available as download online (Take the x64 Version):

4.3 Connection test

Run connection test. If this test is not passed, activation will not work.

4.4 Create response file

Select the copy of license request file:

Save response file

In same location where the request file was copied is now a response file stored. Take a copy of this response file
and move it to the Powermanager system.

4.5 Import response file

On the machine with installed Powermanager select the response file and open it:

5 Offline license return

Nearly similar steps to offline activation.

5.1 Create return file

Start LMU on the machine with installed Powermanager, and create a license return file:

Take a copy of this return file and move it to the system with installed LMU and internet access.

5.2 Import return file

On second system with internet access open LMU and select return file.

On the machine with installed Powermanager select the response file and import it.

6 Defect or lost license

In this case, an online support request to Siemens Powermanager support team must be created.

7 Troubleshooting
7.1 Connection not available

Solution 1:
Take care, point 2.1 of this document was performed successfully and your internet access is really working and
is unrestricted.

Solution 2:
Reset LMU. Open Computer Management (Press [Windows-Key]+[R] and enter “compmgmt.msc“)
and stop the services:

- Siemens BT Licensing Server

- FlexNet Licensing Service
- FlexNet Licensing Service 64

Open Explorer and navigate to “C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\”.

Ensure to check the settings for showing hidden files and delete all contained files in folder. If there is an access
error for deleting one file, just follow the next steps.

Go back to system services and start the stopped services again. Finally do an new try with LMU connection test.

7.2 Object reference not set

After starting LMU the following message appears all the time:

Solution:

Open CMD and enter following command:

C:\Program Files\Siemens\LMS\bin\LmuTool /MULTICSID

Or alternative open Explorer and navigate to "C:\Programme\Siemens\LMS\scripts\". Run the file „CheckLMS.bat“
with right click and „Run as Administrator”.

Remark: An active interne connection (Point 2.1) is required.

7.3 Trusted storage load failed

While activating a license the following message appears:

Solution:
- Close LMU
- Open command prompt (CMD) and enter following command:
cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Siemens\LMS\server\
tsreset_svr.exe -reset
