Q.1 The Laplace transform H(s) for the impulse response h(t) of a LTI system is given below

1
𝐻(𝑠) = 𝑅𝑒(𝑆) > −1
𝑠+1

a) find the system output 𝑦(𝑡) for all 𝑡 if the input 𝑥(𝑡) is 𝑥(𝑡) = 𝑒 −𝑡⁄2 + 2𝑒 −𝑡⁄3 . Show the
steps and calculations
b) Sketch the associated pole-zero plots with ROCs (15 Marks)

Solution

Q.2 Compute the convolution y  n   x  n   h  n    x  k  h  n  k  of the following pairs
k 
of signals:
x  n    nu  n  , 

(a)   
h  n    u  n  , 

x  n      u  n  4
(c)  2

h  n   4n u  2  n 
(d) x[n] and h[n] are as shown in the figure below. [3+2+5+5]

Solution:
Q.3. Find the linear convolution of the following two signals x(n) and h(n) using circular
convolution DFT-IDFT method. Use DIF-FFT algorithm. [15M]

x(n)  2 1  ; h(n)  1 2 3

Solution:

For linear convolution

X(n): {2, 1, 0, 0} and h(n) = {1, 2, 3, 0}

Q.4) The impulse response of the circuit is given as h(t) = e-2t u(t). This circuit is excited by an input
x(t) = e-4t [u(t) – u(t – 2)]. (i) Determine the output of the systems using graphical method. Show all
the graphs, integrals and interval limits clearly and (ii) draw the output and indicate x-values and y-
values clearly. [10+5=15]
