• Is a text that gives you instructions how to do or make
something
tell us how to make something, maybe you like to cook or
like to make cakes or try new things, usually you will look
for tutorials on how to make it, it can be from YouTube or
the internet or Google, all tutorials on how to make it are
included in the procedure text, examples procedure text is
the first about cooking tutorials, many applications teach us
how to cook, the steps and ingredients used are the
sequence in the procedure text
OK, now we will look at the purpose or social function of
procedural texts
purpose or social function of procedure text is to
explain to the readers or listeners about how to make or
how to do something with the sequence of actions or
steps.
So there is a sequence of actions or steps in procedure text, for
example about how to make something, so the first step tells you
what you have to do, next, or second, what you have to do, third,
fourth what you have to do, and so on until finish.
Or for example how to do something tells you how to switch on
or how to switch off labtop or computer, how to use camera, so
this is called the function of procedure text,
Next we will study about the structure of procedure text, so
every kind of text has structure,I am sure you know many kinds
of text in english, like narrative or recount text, exposition text
many others, all those teks have structure.
because by knowing the structure of a text, we will be able to
create that type of text by following its structure
it can be written procedure text or spoken procedure text, So
let's just discuss the structure of procedure text
structure of procedure text:
1. goal
2.ingredients/equipments/tools
3.steps/chronological order
The goal is the purpose, what the text is about? what is the
content of the text? The goal is made usually in form of title,if
we want to give for example make up tutorial, or tutorial how to
make food or bavarage , so we need to give or tell the goal of the
text, what is the goal of the text?
How about the ingredients, in indonesia we know as bahan
bahan, may be you want to make fried rice so the ingredients are
a plate of rice or two plate of rice, two eggs, vegetable oil,etc, so
rice, eggs, vegetable oil are called ingredients.
How about the equpments/tools,in indonesia we know as
perlengkapan atau alat alat , for example if we want to cook so
we will need a pan, we need mixer or blender or may be we
need knife to cut or slice something,
Or may be we want to switch on a camera, so we need camera,
or how to operate a computer, so we need the computer as the
equipment or tool,
So ingredients bahan bahan, equipment/ tool alat alatnya.
Oky next about steps/ chronological order, why I say
chronological order, because the step begin from the first
step,second, third, fourth step, so on until the last step.
Next we’ll study about the language feature or ciri ciri
kebahasaan in procedure text
Language feature of procedure text:
1.using simple present tense
So procedure text uses simple present tense, not simple past or
past perfect or the other kind of tenses.
2.using conjunctions(first, second,then,next, after that,
finally, etc)
They are called conjunction or kata penghubung that we usually
use in procedure text, next in procedure text we need what is
called command/imperative sentence,
3.using command/imperative sentence
so in procedure text we ask someone to do something like cut or
slice the onion and wash, peel the corn or peel the banana or
manggo, it is command,so we don’t say I slice the onion and I
wash it, no noooo, it is wrong, no pronoun used in imperative
sentence, but stright to use the verb, slice the union,peel the
banana, not I peel the banan.

6.using adverb of manner(slowly, quickly,rapidly,etc)

How to use camera
Tool: a digital camera
Steps:
Handle the camera and turn it on. Find an interesting object
around you. Then center the object in the LCD and manage
the zoom control until you get the best view. When you are
ready to take the picture, hold the shutter speed for three
seconds until the picture is focused. Finally, press the shutter
all the way down.
Oky this is the example of procedure text, the part how to use
camera is called the goal, what is the purpose or social function
of the text?,the function or purpose or the goal of the text is to
tell us how to use camera.
Next there is tool, the tool is digital camera,so if we want to
know how to use camera, so we need the tool, its tool is digital
camera,
Annnnnnd next the step or chronological order, what we have to
do first, what we have to do after that, and next and next….until
finish how to write the steps? Up to you you may use number
1,or first step, number 2 or second step,, number 3 or you can
write the steps in form of paragraph, There are no rules about
how to make the steps, you are free to make the steps the way
you want.
All the words that I underlined handle,find, center,hold, press
are called action verbs, there is no subject or pronoun like I
handle the camera or you handle the camera or I find an
interesting object,or you find an interesting object.okyyyyyyy
don’t use subject in procedure text,because the sentence is
command or imperative sentence, we ask someone to do
something,so just stright to use verb or action verb, handle ,
find, center,don’t use I,you,or other subjects.

hidupkan,find an interesting object,cari object atau sasaran yang
interesting menarik,around you disekitar anda, then center
kemudian pusatkan the object in the Lcd and manage atur the

So you can see imperative sentence used in this text uses simple
present tense, in this text we also find language feature,it is
conjunctions conjunctions in the text are the word then,
kemudian,when you are ready to take the picture is also junction
in form of clause, and finally is called conjunction
In the text we can see adverb of time, hold the shutter speed for
three seconds, for three seconds selama tiga detik indicates
adverb of time,
So we can conclude from the text,the text has goal, it is how to
use camera, the tool it’s a camera digital. Has steps,
conjunctions and adverb of time, use imperative sentence, use
action verb, the imperative sentence use simple present tense.

How to Make Ice Lemon Tea
Ingredients:

 1 bag of teabag
 2 pieces of lemon orange
 2 tsp of sugar
 6 Ice cubes
 50 ml of hot water
 150 ml of cold water

Steps:

 Brewed tea bag in 50 ml of hot water.

 Add sugar, and then stir until evenly distributed.
 Squeeze the lemon. Then, pour lemon juice into the tea.
 Add ice cubes and add 150 ml of cold water.
 Stir until the lemon juice mixes with the tea.
 Add lemon slices as decoration.
 Ice Lemon Tea is ready to be served.
