Quizzes
The quizzes will cover the material from the text. They are given in an online format using Blackboard
and are open book. Quizzes can only be made up by obtaining the permission of the instructor BEFORE
the scheduled quiz. You must have a valid excuse that is approved by the instructor. If allowed to take a
missed exam, it must be completed within 24 hours of the original exam time.

Assignment Due Dates (Deadlines)

Some cultures perceive deadlines as approximate, but most workplaces in the U.S. and other Western
countries place a high value on deadlines, and a failure to meet them can have disastrous consequences.
Late papers and homework assignments will not be accepted. Extreme, well-documented circumstances
zxcxcZX (such as a serious illness) may be excused by the instructor. If you have a
doctor’s note, a 24-hour extension may be given. If given, all missed work
must be completed within 24 hours. No extra credit is offered for this class.
All students have the same grading opportunities. It is your choice to take the
opportunities or not. Once an assignment has been graded, there will be no
further opportunities to correct and resubmit for a higher grade as all grades
ZXcZXc are final.

If you have any questions about a grade you receive on an assignment, you
must request a review within 5 days of that grade being entered into
Blackboard. Once a grade has been available on Blackboard for more than 5 days, that grade is final and
will not be altered. This rule is in place to maintain consistency in grading between all students.

Completing and Submitting Assignments

Students are expected to use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage in all work completed
for this course. Submissions must be uploaded using the following steps:
 Complete the executive summaries using Word. Complete the hands-on exercises (decision
making) as directed in the textbook.
 Go to the Weekly Materials & Task section of Blackboard. Click on the
Week you are submitting your work. Click Browse My Computer to
upload assignments.
 Verify that your assignment has been submitted by selecting “My
Grades” and locating the assignment and grade column. A green
exclamation mark is an indication the submission was uploaded
correctly. An “in progress” icon appears if you have submitted
incorrectly or clicked “save” rather than “submit.” Try to resubmit. If
you continue to have this issue, call the Help Desk at 989-774-3662.

Keys to Success in this Course

 Read carefully and follow the instructions.
o The syllabus and other materials posted on the course Bb site.
o The assigned chapters and assignments (case studies and decision-making
opportunities).
zxcxcZX o The quizzes.
 Do not underestimate the level of difficulty and amount of work required. You will not do well if
you place the coursework at the bottom of your priority list.
 Do not procrastinate. If you try to complete the work at the last minute, its quality will suffer, as
will your grade. You will not pass this course if you wait to contact me about the material you
don’t understand.
 Proofread and edit your work carefully. As the course progresses, students will be held
accountable for an increasing number of aspects of effective writing, e.g., content, style,
organization, and formatting.

Academic Dishonesty
The CMU bulletin states “In the academic community, the high-value placed on truth implies a
corresponding intolerance of scholastic dishonesty. Written or other work which students submit must
be the product of their own efforts and must be consistent with appropriate standards of academic and
professional ethics. Academic dishonesty, which includes cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of
dishonest or unethical behavior is prohibited.” In cases that involve the above instances of academic
dishonesty, the student’s grade and status in the course are left to the discretion of the instructor.
These are serious offenses that involve serious consequences. All written submissions will be checked
for plagiarism using SafeAssign, which is part of Blackboard.
