Test Two. There are five parts to the test. You will hear each piece twice. We will
now stop for a moment before we start the test. Please ask any questions now
because you must NOT speak during the test.

PART 1 Now look at the instructions for Part One.

For each question, choose the correct answer.

Question 1 One. Which photo is the boy showing his mother?

Boy: Do you like this photo, Mum? I took it when I went for a walk with
Grandpa last night.
Woman: It’s amazing. It doesn’t look like it was taken at night!
Boy: Yes, the moon was very bright. Aren’t the trees beautiful with snow
on them?
Woman: They certainly are. Did you see any animals?
Boy: Lots of rabbits. But they ran away before I could take their photo.

Question 2 Two. Where does the girl’s mother work?

Boy: Your mum works at the railway station, doesn’t she, Katy?
Girl: She’s changed her job. She’s a receptionist in a big new hotel now.
Boy: Do you mean the one next to the museum where my dad works?

Girl: That’s right. I’m going to see her there after school. Do you want
to come?
Boy: Yes, please.
Now listen again.

Question 3 Three. What did Helena’s class do in their history lesson?

Man: Did you have a good day at school, Helena?
Girl: Yes, Dad. We had to write a story about an old king in our English
lesson. That was fun.
Man: That sounds more like history!
Girl: Yes, we had that today, too. We watched a film about life in a castle.
After that, in art, I chose to do a picture of the castle. Here it is.
Look.
Man: Great!

Question 4 Four. Which new sport is the girl going to do today?

Boy: I like your board, Daisy. Are you good at it?
Girl: I don’t know. This is my first time. I’m OK at skateboarding, so I
hope it won’t be too different.
Boy: Well, at least it’s softer when you fall on snow. Have you ever been
surfing?
Girl: I’d like to. My brother’s got a surfboard, but he won’t let me use it.
Now listen again.

Question 5 Five. What did the boy eat for breakfast?

Woman: I’m just getting your lunch box ready for you to take to school, Peter.
I’ve given you a cheese sandwich. Would you like to take some
grapes as well?
Boy: Can’t I have a piece of melon?
Woman: Sorry, but you had the last piece for breakfast. You can have a pear
if you prefer.
Boy: OK, thanks, Mum.
Now listen again.

That is the end of Part One.

PART 2 Now look at Part Two.

For each question, write the correct answer in the gap. Write one word or a
number or a date or a time. Look at questions 6-10 now. You have ten seconds.
You will hear a teacher telling a class about some homework.
Man: I want to give you some information about your homework. You
have to do it for our lesson on Friday. I know I’ll see you on
Wednesday, but you’ll need more time.
For your last homework, you found out about birds, but now I’d like
you to get all the information you can about bees. They’re really
interesting. You can start by reading something from your textbook.
It’s on page 67. But don’t go on to pages 68 and 69. We’ll read
those together in class.
After you’ve read the page in your book, you can learn more online.
There’s a good website called www.nature.com. OK? There’s also
one called www.world.com, but that’s less useful, so don’t bother
with that. Then I want you to write a paragraph about what you’ve
learnt. Last time, you wrote 150 words, but now I’d like 275, please.
One more thing - you don’t need to include any photos, but I’d like
you to do a drawing. Any questions?

Now listen again.

[repeat]
That is the end of Part Two.

PART 3 Now look at Part Three.

For each question, choose the correct answer. Look at questions 11-15 now.
You have twenty seconds.
You will hear Connie talking to her friend Tom about an activity club in the school
holidays.
Tom: How are you, Connie?
Connie: Really busy this school holiday, Tom. I go to a sports club every day.
It’s in the park, a few kilometres from the town centre.
Tom: Can anyone go ... at any age?
Connie: You can go to the club at 9, but I don’t think it’s so good for children
that age. You really need to be at least 11. And maybe it’s less fun for
people over 13.
Tom: Do you like the club?
Connie: Yes! Each day I do something new ... something difficult that the
coaches think I can do, even if I’m not sure. And I’ve started to make
some friends.
Tom: Well, I’m bored playing football with my dad. I want to go out on a
boat. I’ve never done that! I’m a strong swimmer!
Connie: Yes, you can do that at the club.
Tom: Oh, good. If I join, do I need to take anything?

Connie: Just something to dry yourself with. You don’t need to bring any
money because lunches are included.
Tom: I’ll need some new sports clothes.
Connie: Do you know the Star cinema on Bank Street? There’s a store across
the road that sells all those things. It’s on the road to the hospital.
Tom: Excellent!
Now listen again.
[repeat]
That is the end of Part Three.

PART 4 Now look at Part Four.

For each question, choose the correct answer.

Question 16 Sixteen. You will hear two friends talking about going swimming together. Why
doesn’t the girl want to go swimming?
Boy: Are you coming swimming after school? I’ve got enough money for
both of us if you haven’t got any.
Girl: I’ve got plenty, thanks, but I don’t want to make this headache worse.
Boy: Oh, come on! Is it because we’ve got some homework? You can do
it afterwards.
Girl: I can, but I’m getting a cold, so I really don’t want to go.

Now listen again.

[repeat]

Question 17 Seventeen. You will hear two friends talking about a school trip. Where are they
going to go on the school trip?
Boy: Are you looking forward to the trip?
Girl: Yes, it’s going to be nice seeing the animals outside in the fresh air -
not like the last trip we went on.
Boy: I agree! I like dinosaurs, but looking at all those bones got quite
boring after a while.
Girl: It did. And maybe we’ll be able to play football in one of the fields.

Now listen again.

Question 18 Eighteen. You will hear a teacher talking to his class. What’s he talking to them about?
Man: As you know, Mrs Barratt is having a baby soon, so from next week
you’ll have a different teacher for geography for a while. Mr Kennedy
will be taking you instead - you know him from last year. You’ll now
have geography on Thursdays at 10.30 instead of 9.30, in the same
room as on your timetable, D11.
Now listen again.

Question 19 Nineteen. You will hear a boy, Oscar, talking about running. How does Oscar
feel now?
Girl: How are you, Oscar?
Boy: I’m training for a race - getting up at 5 a.m. every day and running
round the track twenty-five times.
Girl: That isn’t interesting.
Boy: I like running. It’s just I’d really love to get some sleep instead of
coming to school. Coach says it’s an important race and I must
practise more. He worries too much.
Girl: Oh!
Now listen again.
[repeat]

Question 20 Twenty. You will hear a boy, Alex, talking to a friend about a new T-shirt. Why didn’t
Alex buy the blue and white T-shirt?
Girl: Hi Alex, did you get the red T-shirt?
Boy: No, they only had very big ones left, and I wanted a small one. I
found a really nice blue and white striped one, but I couldn’t afford it.
Hope I get it as my birthday present.
Girl: Oh yeah!
Boy: Then I found a nice green one that fits me.
Girl: Great!
Now listen again.
[repeat]
That is the end of Part Four.

PART 5 Now look at Part Five.

For each question, choose the correct answer. Look at questions 21-25 now.
You have fifteen seconds.
You will hear two friends, Luke and Claire, discussing plans for a school show.
Where will each person put a poster for the show?
Claire: How can we sell all these tickets for the school show, Luke?
Luke: Why not put posters in different places around town? I put one at
the museum last week. Can you help, Claire?
Claire: Of course. I’m going to the post office before I go shopping, so I’ll
ask if I can put one there.
Luke: Great. Paul’s still a member of the sports centre.
Claire: So he can take a poster there. I’m meeting him in the cafe later, I’ll
ask him then. What about James?
Luke: His apartment building’s next to a big shop. He can ask the staff to
put one there.

Claire: Good idea. What about Joe?

Luke: He needs to borrow books for his studies, so next time he goes to
get some, he can ask there. Maybe you can ask him when you catch
the bus together?
Claire: OK. Karen will help, I’m sure.
Luke: She lives in one of those flats near the sports centre. Let’s ask her to
put one where she lives so all her neighbours see it.
Claire: Good idea.
