Course Title: Materials In Design II

Instructor: Muhammad Zahid Rahman Khan

Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth analysis of indoor materials used in interior design. Students
will explore the properties, applications, sourcing, environmental sustainability, and aesthetic
considerations of a variety of materials ranging from traditional to contemporary innovations.
The course offers practical knowledge for selecting and recommending materials that not only
enhance the design but also ensure durability, comfort, and compliance with industry standards.
Learning Outcomes:
Learners should be able to identify and describe various indoor materials used in interior design.
Learners should be able to compare and contrast the properties and uses of different materials.
Learners should be able to select appropriate materials for specific design scenarios considering
factors such as durability, aesthetics, sustainability, and cost. Learners should be able to integrate
knowledge of materials into the design process, creating cohesive and functional design
solutions. Learners should be able to assess material choices in the context of client needs,
environmental impact, and industry standards.
Here are the following learning outcomes:

1. *Identification*: Students will be able to accurately identify and categorize a range of indoor
materials commonly used in interior design, including textiles, woods, metals, plastics, and
composite materials.

2. *Analysis*: Students will be able to analyze and evaluate the properties of indoor materials,
such as durability, maintainability, and aesthetic value, to determine their suitability for different
interior design applications.

3. *Application*: Students will demonstrate the ability to select and justify material choices for
various design scenarios, with consideration for their physical properties, cost-effectiveness, and
overall design intent.

4. *Integration*: Students will integrate knowledge of indoor materials to create a

comprehensive interior design proposal that addresses the functional and aesthetic requirements
of a given space.
5. *Evaluation*: Students will critically assess indoor material applications in best practice
examples to establish their effectiveness in meeting design objectives, user satisfaction, and
sustainability goals.
Each outcome is action-oriented, clear, measurable (through quizzes, assignments, presentations
and final exam), and tied directly to the content and skills the academician aims to teach in the
course. This approach ensures that outcomes align with the skills that interior designers need in
the field.
