Every student’s growth as a musician and a music-literate person can be realized


through ongoing learning experiences that connect creative music activities, technical
knowledge and skill development, the building and broadening of cultural and historical
understandings related to art and life, and ongoing reflective and critical thinking opportunities
that focus on music and personalized learning.

We, the students of SCHOOL NAME, aspire to be honest and forthright in

We will meet the challenges to be beyond reproach in our actions and our
words. We will conduct ourselves in a manner that commands the dignity

This course is a hands-on, interactive class. Therefore, it is necessary to be punctual


and in attendance to maximize class time on your instrument(s), projects and theory
work.
There may be a daily participation mark for following class expectations. Each day
you may be evaluated for your effective contribution in this class. (Respectful of
teacher and fellow students, puts away all equipment in proper location, practices
required pieces, no food in class, remains in assigned practice area)
A monthly calendar will be posted as to what we will be
working on in each class.
Please ensure that your practice room is left the way you found it at the beginning of the
day. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, make sure to let me know immediately.
Picks will be available for the price of 25 cents each. Capos can be purchased this
year for $20 each. This will be yours to keep. Should you want to return it at the end
of the semester, your $20 will be refunded. We cannot afford to continue to have
capos go missing as they have in the past.
You will be assigned equipment to use at the beginning of the semester. If there is any
damage or loss of equipment, you will be charged!
If you would like to borrow equipment, you must sign it out and the
return it at the agreed upon date.
Practice Journals will be handed in EVERY FRIDAY for
evaluation and comments.
CLASSROOM POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS
Expectations:

Recovery Dates:
March 15th – 9:00 – 3:00pm
April 5th – 9:00 – 3:00pm
May 17th – Lunch & 3:30 – 5:00pm
June 12th – Lunch & 3:30 – 5:00pm

TARDINESS: If a student is not in the classroom after the second bell has rung, he/she
will be considered late. Please note: Students coming to class unprepared, ei., no textbooks,
assignments etc., or wearing inappropriate T-Shirts will be sent from the classroom to
correct the situation. Upon returning to class, the student will be considered late
unexcused.
HALL PASS: In order to use the washroom you must have a hall pass this year. In order to
receive a hall pass, you must find me to acquire one and then you may use the washroom.

PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism is ILLEGAL. You are not allowed to copy anyone else’s work
and make it your own. Any student who chooses to plagiarize in any form and does not use
proper MLA referencing will be given a mark of 0% and NO chance will be given to make up
that assignment.
WATER: Students may bring water to class. This is the only beverage that will be allowed
in the classroom. Students are not to bring any type of food in the classroom as well. Food is
NOT ALLOWED anywhere!
CELL PHONES: Students may use cell phones or other BYOT with permission of the
teacher. These can be used as a powerful learning tool in this classroom. Any phones caught
in use or going off in the classroom will be confiscated and given to the administration for
students to retrieve.
HEADWEAR/ JACKETS: Hats and jackets may not be brought or worn in the classroom.
Students will be asked to return jackets to their lockers and may be marked late as a
consequence. Headwear will be confiscated and given to the administration for students to
retrieve.
BEHAVIOUR / CITIZENSHIP: All students are required to display polite, courteous
manners towards teachers, office and maintenance staff as well as towards fellow peers. All
students are to respect the dress code at St. Cecelia as specified in the student agenda book.
RESPECT and ATTITUDE are key elements in making this classroom a productive and safe
environment for all students to learn. All students are to respect the learning environment of
others.
