1 CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor

NOTE
The subcomponent CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor is part of Analysis Basic.

The independent subcomponent CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor is designed to determine basic

statistical and structural information in your SAP® ERP system.

The analysis extract generates an evaluation that provides a comprehensive overview of your sys-
tem. The focus is on system usage, for example the scope of the organizational structure, how
intensively your system is used, or which modules are used in your system. Furthermore, you can
compare multiple scans from different systems or clients.

CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor is particularly useful for preparing transformation projects and
anticipating the complexity of your project. CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor provides answers to
key questions in these areas. For example, it tells you to what extent the transformation rule base
needs to be extended in order to transform all relevant tables and data objects. Based on the eval-
uation, SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE can create a qualified offer that covers your busi-
ness landscape transformation requirements.

The CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor process is as follows:

1.1 Users and Authorizations

This chapter provides all the necessary information on the authorizations required to run Crys-
talBridge® Analysis Extractor.

1.1.1 Current User

Assign the role /SNP/SC to the current user.

To apply the changes, the profile of the role must then be regenerated with transaction SU01 or
PFCG.
4 User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis

NOTE
If you do not assign the role to the executing user, the user receives an error message
when calling the CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor role that they are not authorized to run
the program.

NOTE
For analyses on systems with version SAP_BASIS 701 (or higher) and an MSSQL data-
base, the authorization object S_DBCON must be assigned to the user profile in order
to be able to display the table size. You can perform the assignment using transaction
PFCG or SU01.

1.2 Creating Analysis Extracts

This chapter provides information on creating and processing an analysis extract:

1.2.1 User Interface

After starting the transaction for CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor (/N/SNP/SC), the following
user interface appears:
User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis 5

NOTE
If you receive an error message that you are not authorized to run the program, contact
your system administrator and have the role /SNP/SC assigned to you.

Area Description

1 Menu bar

The Go to menu contains the following CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor functions:

Run Scan Manually (Standard or Extended)

Manage system scan results
The menu bar corresponds to the SAP® standard in all other respects.

2 CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor toolbar

Refresh: Refreshes the view of the transaction

Standard Scan: Starts the Standard Scan
Extended Scan: Starts the Extended Scan
Download data: Saves the results of the scan locally in a file

3 CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor user interface

The following functions are available:

Start scan (Standard or Extended)

Save scan results

1.2.2 Scanning Systems

Proceed as follows to scan your system:

1. Use the SAP® GUI to log on to the client of the SAP® R/3 system where you want to perform
the scan.
2. Start transaction /N/SNP/SC.

NOTE
If you receive an error message that you are not authorized to run the program,
contact your system administrator and have the role /SNP/SC assigned to you.

3. Depending on the scan you want to perform, click Standard Scan or Extended Scan.
6 User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis

NOTE
The Standard Scan extracts all the data that your contact person at SNP needs to
create an offer for you. The Extended Scan contains more detailed data in order
to gain a deeper insight into your system. Compared with the Standard Scan, the
Extended Scan might have a longer runtime.

The scan of your system has been started.

1.2.3 Scanning Systems Manually

This allows you to adapt the configuration of the CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor scan to your
needs.

Proceed as follows to configure the analysis run manually:

1. Start transaction /N/SNP/SC.

2. In the Go to menu, select either Run Scan Manually > Standard Scan or Run Scan Manu-
ally > Extended Scan depending on what your SNP contact person recommends.

NOTE
The modes differ with respect to the quantity of extracted data. Standard mode
has a short runtime. It is the optimal mode for sales purposes and contains all the
information necessary to create an offer. Extended mode extracts additional data
that is relevant to consulting and migration projects, and therefore has a longer
runtime. It is used to perform more detailed evaluations.

The configuration view opens.

3. Define your settings.

NOTE
You can open a description of a parameter by selecting the relevant parameter
and pressing F1.

NOTE
If you adjust additional settings that are disabled in the standard configuration,
this can result in long runtimes.
User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis 7

NOTE
You can add additional parameters via Go to > Expert mode.

4. Click Schedule scan in background.

You have started the manual scan in the background.

You will be directed to the main page of CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor.

1.2.3.1 Parameters for the Analysis

You can start both the Standard Scan and the Extended Scan manually.

The manual scan allows you to configure the parameters for a specific variant if you want to determ-
ine non-standard information or want to disable irrelevant parameters.

For the manual scan, a distinction is still made between user mode and expert mode. In expert
mode, additional parameters are enabled to refine the data collection.

NOTE
Changing the parameters can influence the runtime of CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor.
We therefore recommend that you only change the parameters after consulting a contact
person at SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE.

The following table lists all parameters with a description and shows which parameters are set by
default in which mode.

1.4 FAQs and Troubleshooting

This chapter provides information on issues and frequently asked questions concerning Crys-
talBridge® Analysis Extractor.

1.4.1 Impact on the System

The namespace /SNP/ is exclusively reserved for SNP Schneider-Neureither & Partner SE. This
exclusive SAP namespace allows us to develop components and solutions for SAP® products
without the risk of naming conflicts caused by deploying components and solutions in external
SAP® systems and importing external products into our own systems.

CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor does not write data to SAP® standard tables or other tables. It
only writes data to the SNP namespace (this includes also the caching process).

Using an exclusive namespace makes it possible to uninstall CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor

with a standard uninstall transport.

1.4.2 Personal Data

This chapter contains links to an example of a demo evaluation of a scan and an explanation of the
basics. The demo evaluation provides a detailed view of which information is determined.

scan.
Scroll down to the entry System Scan result (report).
Click Demo.
Click User administration.

The name of the person who runs the scan on your SAP® system is the only personal information
determined. In addition, the software collects aggregated data but no personal data, provided that
master data and transaction data have been divided as defined in the SAP® standard. Aggregated
data includes the number of users and user roles, for example.

NOTE
If the organizational structures (e.g. sales or purchasing organizations) of your company are
set up based on personal data, personal data might be included in the analysis result. The
collection of personal data can be excluded by parameterizing the analysis run.

Determining this information is absolutely necessary because a transformation project cannot be

carried out if the underlying data is not available. In case of doubt, the analysis of user data can be
excluded from a scan in expert mode. However, this reduces the quality of the scan result sig-
nificantly.

For technical reasons due to third-party developments or in-house developments on the analyzed
SAP® system, we cannot completely rule out that data might be analyzed beyond the intended
scope. Nevertheless, determining this information is absolutely necessary because a trans-
formation project cannot be carried out if the required data is not available. This includes data struc-
tures that you want to analyze, migrate, harmonize, convert, verify or mask.

If you do not want to send the scan results via e-mail, you can upload the result file to the Crys-
talBridge® Analysis Extractor Portal directly (see Uploading Results via the SNP Service Portal).

The results uploaded to the CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor Portal are only visible to the relevant
customer and consultant responsible for the CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor project.

1.4.3 Missing Authorizations

If you have problems running CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor or downloading the results, your
authorizations are probably severely restricted. CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor can run with
User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis 39

minimal authorizations.

To solve this problem, ask your SAP® Basis system administrator to assign the role /SNP/SC to
you. This role is delivered together with CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor and contains all the
required authorizations. However, the CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor transport must then be
imported into all clients in the system because the role can only be installed on a client-dependent
basis.

To apply the changes, the profile of the role must then be regenerated with transaction SU01 or
PFCG.

Log off the SAP® system completely and log on again. You should now be able to use all the Crys-
talBridge® Analysis Extractor functions without any problems.

1.4.4 Inconsistent Tables

The error DDIC_TYPE_REF_ACCESS_ERROR during a scan indicates inconsistent tables in your
system. This is shown by the error message below or a similar error message.

There is an error in the structure description of the Dictionary type "SI_COLFILER".

The type references the type "DFKKCOLFILE_P_W" Error type: "referred type not found"

The tables in question were not enabled correctly. As a result, they trigger a short dump when they
are accessed (even with standard transactions such as SE16). In such a case, start the scan with
preconfigured parameters. Click Go to > Expert mode to switch to the window for detailed para-
meterization. Select the Check nametabs? option. The scan will perform additional checks before
accessing tables.

NOTE
Because these checks are quite resource-intensive, disable this option if you are sure that
your system does not contain any inconsistent tables.

1.4.5 Where Is Result Data Stored?

To run CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor, there are two alternative modes: Spool and File on
application server. The mode determines where temporary data resulting from the analyses is
stored. By default, a text file is written to the working directory of the SAP® Application Server (/us-
r/sap/<SYSTEM ID>/<INSTANCE>/work). This requires fewer resources (main memory and
40 User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis

disk space) compared with spool mode. The files usually have a size of about 30 MB. In exceptional
cases (e.g. when performing a potential analysis), the file size can reach up to 200 MB. Use spool
mode only if the authorizations of the current user are not sufficient to write data to the working dir-
ectory of the SAP® Application Server.

1.4.6 Excluding Database Statistics During Scans

CrystalBridge® Analysis Extractor obtains and uses statistics generated by the database that under-
lies the system being analyzed.

If problems occur when querying database statistics, you can disable this query. The corresponding
parameter is enabled by default, i.e. the database statistics are determined. If you disable this para-
meter, the following areas are partially restricted: Add-ons, Business Object Repository, SAP
tables, customer tables. In addition, the general information on the database size is obtained by
other means; this different calculation method can lead to differing results in the General Inform-
ation area.

Proceed as follows to avoid generating database statistics:

1. Start transaction /N/SNP/SC.

2. In the menu bar, click Go to > Run Scan Manually > Standard Scan.
3. In the menu bar, click Go to > Expert mode.
4. In the area Detailed param. > Produce DB statistics?, select the option Determine DB
statistics?.
5. Optional: Change additional parameters.
6. Click Schedule scan in background.

The task is executed.

1.4.7 Database Size

The determination of the database size differs due to the respective database types. Crys-
talBridge® Analysis Extractor determines the size of the database and how much of it is occupied.
This is based on factors such as the SAP® transaction DB02.

An example is the database type DB400. The total size of the database is the ASP total size. The
size of the database used is determined by tables, primary keys and indexes. Views are omitted
because they are not relevant for migration scenarios.
User Guide – CrystalBridge® Analysis 41

For HANA databases, the total database size is based on the disk size. The database size used, on
the other hand, is based on the data size of all volumes. This information also includes the client
capability. Accordingly, all information is specific to the database client of the analyzed SAP® sys-
tem.

1.4.8 Missing Table Size

It is possible that the table size cannot be determined after executing CrystalBridge® Analysis
Extractor. Make sure that you have the appropriate authorizations for transaction SU53.

In special cases, for example when using SAP version SAP_BASIS 701 (or higher) with an MSSQL
database, the executing user requires the authorization object S_DBCON. Otherwise, the system
scan will be completed, but the table sizes will not be included in the results.
