Have you ever heard of the Titanic? The Titanic was a cruise ship that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912. The Titanic sailed from England to America. At that time, it was the largest and most expensive ship ever built. There were 2,435 people onboard. Most of them were rich businessmen. On April 14, the Titanic hit an iceberg. after two and a half hours, the ship filled with water and sank. There were not enough lifeboats for everyone. Only 710 passengers were able to survive while over 1,500 passengers passed away. Those in the water died within minutes because the water temperature was 28 degrees. The loss of the Titanic shocked the world. The Titanic wasn’t seen again until September 1, 1985 when a team of divers found where it was. It sits over two and a half miles deep on the ocean floor. Today, ships are safer because of what was learned from the Titanic. The Titanic’s story is so famous because it is written in different books, seen in movies, and museums.
