Access Method
Identify routes / Check routes for hazards / Identify climbing system / List necessary equipment

- Using the CTV for access the tower.


- Using the elevator to go up to the nacelle, If the elevator breaks down, evacuation via the ladders.
- When working close allways wear the fall arrest hooks
- Exclusion zone - Using barricade tape and signage below the tower to avoid other workers entering to work area.
- Climb using ascending device ( Croll and Hand Jumma with Foot loop)
- Backup device using the Duck or ASAP
- Descent using Descending device ( Stop or I’D)

Rigging
Identify and assess anchor points / Detail anchor system / Check for hazards in path of ropes

- Using hooks to safly access anchor point area (attach hooks on anchor points amd structural points)
- to control potential fall during work, always have minimum 1 point attachment during fall arrest
position and minimum 2 point of attachment when suspended.
- Using 2 Stop / I’ D for attached on each anchor ( prepare Rig-for Rescue System – Tension line)
- Avoid from tangle and abrasion of rope ( manage rope properly )
- Avoid rope to attach with sharp or hot surface ( Using rope protection or avoid with deviation)
- Use Y-hang on anchor point when set-up tension line.
- Use ID and back-up with ASAP for lowering system.

Rigging for Rescue


Identify and assess anchor points / Detail pulley system / Check for hazards in path of ropes
Setup of rescue equipment
I Rope Access supervisor (Level 3) shall be the first to ascend the tower with the site technician.
II An anchor points for the ropes will be set in the desired location.
The position of the ropes will be in the main direction of the wind, where the inspection is to be done.
III Ropes (double the length of the height of the structure) will be set up in a "Rig to rescue" system.

IV. Both rope access technicians will standby at the upper service platform for rescue in case of any emergency.
A rope access technician will go to the lower level to assist in any rescue activities.
V. All personnel ascending the tower will be briefed regarding usage of all safety equipment

Step-by-Step Work Method

1. Toolbox meeting to discuss safety issue on work area and latest issue from IRATA (Safety Bulletin) & Client.
2. Discuss hazards from Risk Assessment Form.
3. Toolbox conducted by rope access level 3 / Supervisor and site manager
4. Ensure all team member understand and sign off the toolbox meeting form.
5. Preparation of work site – Install barricade tape with signage for setup Exclusion Zone
6. Preparation equipment – Pre use / inspects all equipment before used (guide by Level 3)
7. Setup anchor point (Rigging for rescue) and pre-test the system.
8. Briefing team member about technique and hazards when perform task.
9. All emergency equipment on place monitor by Level 3 (1 Aid box & standby Radio to communicate with Radio
Operator / CTV and emergeny services)
10. Level 2 performs NDT Inspection and is constantly monitored by a level 3
11. Level 3 leads the rescue and the other level 2 helps
12. After Tea brake / Lunch, Level 3 re-inspects all of the anchor points and equipment to ensure it is safe to use.
13. Housekeeping – Count all equipment (refer equipment checklist) and proper manage all gear and level 3 double
check around work area to avoid missplacement of any equipment.
14. Remove barricade and signage from exclusive zone.
15. Site technician and the level 3 coordinate the closing of the turbine andcommunication with the ROC

Climbing the turbine tower

1. All technician working on the turbine must have valid GWO and IRATA certificates.
2. All technician declare of fitness condition to rope access level 3 and report to standby person.
3. Before the work L3 and the site technian need to put the turbine in the work position the turbine and LOTO.
4. Rope access level 3 must do buddy check to all personnel to ensure all wear their PPE correctly.
5. Rope access level 3 must monitor all personnel climb the tower and ensure back-up device always maintain Fall
Factor 0.
6. For safety, all personnel working on tower are not allowed to smoke.
7. During emergency or bad weather, all personnel working on tower must stop all activity, secure all equipment
and follow instruction form rope access level 3. Level 3 must monitor the safety of everyone during the descent.
Level 3 is the last person descend to the ground.

Other Considerations

1- Communicate with CTV and ROC when working close work area
2- Bad wether risks; Lightning, wind, rain (use on site data, weather reports and apps to plan for work)
3- Consideration with suspension trauma (moving legs constantly and using the seat(eg. Podium)
4- Consideration dehydration when hot weather (Hydrate)
5- Consideration of dropped objects risk(mittigate with leashes)
