Mapping - A mapping is used to map elements of one set (domain) to the other set
(range).

Types of mapping
One- one mapping: Many one mapping: more Many- many mapping:
every element in than one element in one or more element in
domain map onto domain map onto same domain map onto same
one and only one element in range. of different element in
element in range. range.
Function- is a relation which describes that there should be only one
output for each input (or) we can say that a special kind of
relation (a set of ordered pairs), which follows a rule i.e., every
X-value should be associated with only one y-value is called a
function.
Note- function can only be one-one or many one not many -many or one many.
Interval notation
Write domain and range set of the following
Write domain and range set of the following
Find range of the following
A relation shows the relationship between INPUT and OUTPUT. Whereas,
a function is a relation which derives one OUTPUT for each given
INPUT.
Vertical line test- to check whether a graph is a function or not.
• Check whether the following graphs are function or not
a) b) c)
Function notation
1. If g: x x - x² find g(4)
2. If H(x) (2x+5)/ x-4, find H(6), H(2), H(-3)
3. If m(x) = x² -2 , find x when m(x)= 0, m(x) =1
4. If f(x)= 3x+2, and g(x) = 4x, find value of x
Sketch the graph y= g(x), where g(x)= 2x-3, on the domain {x|-2 ≤x ≤ 2}
Find the simplest from P(x) = x² -2x+3 at P(x+3), P(-x), P(x² +1)
Composition of function
1. Let f(x) =5x+1, g(x)= 4-2x then Find values of
a) f(g(0)),
b) g(f(1)),
c) also find the simplest form for f(g(x))and g(f(x))
2. Let f(x)= 3x+1, g(x)= 2x-3, and g(f(x))= 17 find value of x.
3. Find the value of f(x)= 2x+1 and g(f(x))= 4 x² +4x+3, find g(x)
Inverse and reciprocal function
Reciprocal function : y = k / x, k = constant
The reciprocal of a number can be determined by dividing the variable by 1. Similarly, the
reciprocal of a function is determined by dividing 1 by the function's expression.
Find reciprocal of y= x+6 , find its domain and range, and also find horizontal and vertical
asymptote.
Reciprocal function equation is given as f(x)=(a/(x−h))+k, where a,h,k constants.
h is value of vertical
asymptote, k is
value of horizontal
asymptote.
Determine equation of the following reciprocal graph
