PRINCIPLE OF INJECTION

MOULDING
MOULD
COOLING One fundamental principle of
Injection Moulding is that hot material
BY enters the mould, where it cools
rapidly to a temperature at which it
Y.HIDAYATHULLAH solidifies sufficiently to retain the
TECHNICAL OFFICER – CAD/CAM shape of the impression.
CIPET – MYSORE.

FACTORS DESIDING OPERATING MOULD TEMPERATURE

TEMPERATURE OF MOULD
It is often found advantageous to
• Type and grade of material to be use a slightly higher temperature
moulded than is required just to fill the
• Length of flow within the impression impression, as this tends to improve
the surface finish of the moulding by
• Wall section of the moulding minimizing wild lines, flow marks
• Length of the feed system. Etc. and other blemishes.

material, water or other fluid is circulated Cooling Insert – Bolster Assembly
through holes or channels within the
mould. These holes or channels are Cooling Bolster
termed flow ways or water ways and the Cooling Insert
complete system of flow ways is termed - Cooling Cavity Inserts
the circuit or cooling circuit.

Plugs are standard component part used
to seal ends of drilled flow way holes

2. Adapters 3. O ring
Is a standard mould pipe fittings used
to connect the flow path (or supply
and return lines). O-Ring ( or O – Seal) is a synthetic
rubber ring which is incorporated in
a suitable recess in a mould for the
purpose of preventing leakage of
the coolant fluid.

3. O ring 4. Heat pipe

Heat pipe is a hollow cylindrical

vessel, which is sealed at both
ends by a cap, and it contains
just sufficient fluid so as to
saturate a wick which lines the
inside of the vessel.

5. Heat Rod

Heat rod is a cylindrical metal rod

which is inserted into an
accommodating hole machined in
the core insert. Its purpose is to
