Welcome to Laureate Languages Online (LLO). We are delighted to have you with us. Below
you will find essential guidelines that will help you start the course and complete all required
tasks successfully. Please make sure to read the following Course Guide carefully.
Key Points
• You will go through an induction week before the course starts. During this week, you will work on
sample tasks to familiarize yourself with the system. Your teacher will answer any questions during
this period to ensure you get off to a good start.
• The course includes speaking and writing activities, which you will be sending for an automatic
feedback from the system and you will have the option to change them accordingly. After
completing these changes, you must send it to final review to your teacher.
• The English Discoveries platform activities are an important part of your evaluation. Please be
aware of notifications reminding you of pending activities.
• You will attend a weekly online session with your teacher and classmates. The group will vote to
determine the schedule for these sessions (majority rules). However, the two most popular times
chosen by the group will be available for you to choose from.
• Your attendance and participation in the online sessions will be part of your final score,
assisting to synchronous sessions is a requirement. If you encounter any issues that
prevent you from participating in the course, please contact your teacher.
• Send any technical problem you find in the English Discoveries platform using the following link:

Laureate Languages launched its new program Laureate Languages Online (LLO) to provide
online English courses for staff, faculty, students, and alumni to meet their language-learning
needs from the comfort of their home or office.
English Courses
The courses cover the range of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
(CEFR):from First Discoveries (A1) to Advances 3 (C1). The courses consist of online and
synchronous work with learners dedicating approximately 4 hours per week to asynchronous online
work, such as reading, presentations, exercises graded by the learning management systems. The
teacher provides feedback in the platform and engages learners in a 1-hour weekly synchronous
class via web conference (Zoom meetings).
If you would like to know more about these specific courses, please contact your institutional
English Director/Coordinator or Human Resources Representative.
The following are vital points that provide an overview of the English course mechanics:
Course Duration
The course will run for a total of 10 weeks (11 weeks counting the introductory week). During this
period, you will cover a set number of units. For example, in our General English course, each
week student covers 1 unit with a total of 10 units per course. This is equivalent of approximately
half of a CEFR level. Participants need two terms to complete a full level. Your teacher will cover
Class Schedules
Courses are delivered in a blended modality with a specific schedule of weekly activities to
complete. It is very important to complete your work on time and not wait until the last minute to
submit speaking/writing tasks. Teachers will close access to the writing/speaking activities after
the due date each week. Remember, many activities are collaborative, so not completing your
assignments in a timely fashion can impact your fellow students as well. You are expected to
complete activities for each unit in the English Discoveries platform every week, and to attend
synchronous classes along with your teacher and classmates.
Please note Zoom Sessions are a requirement to approve your course, as these sessions have
a weight of 25% in your final grade.
Induction Week
You will have an introductory week to familiarize yourself with the platform and activities before
the curriculum starts. This time will help you engage more efficiently in all required activities.
Weekly Assignments
You will have several system-graded activities every week. The system provides a score for those
assignments in the gradebook. In addition, you will have writing and speaking activities that you
have to send for automatic feedback by the system and you´ll modify them according to it before
sending the final version to your teacher.
Synchronous Sessions
The teachers coordinate two synchronous sessions per week for each course section with the
purpose of providing all participants options to access the sessions. Participation in the
synchronous sessions represents 25% of the final grade. From this percentage, 10% includes
assistance to the sessions and 15% includes communication activities.
Teachers will keep control of the assistance, assigning 1% per class attended during the course
(having at the end of the course a maximum of 10% for attendance). Teachers plan three
communicative activities per course which are taken in Week 4 (checking of Units 1-3), Week 7
(checking of Units 4-6) and Week 10 (checking of Units 7-9). These activities will take place in the
Zoom sessions assigned by each teacher.
Teachers evaluate each participant after the Zoom session using recording made of the session.
They evaluate the student´s communication performance using their own analytic rubrics.
Teachers can grant a maximum score of 5% for student performance, providing a maximum of
15% for the total of the course.
The English courses offered by LLO consist of 20 units that cover different lessons optimally
developed for each CEFR English level. In a term, you will cover 10 units (1 per week). Advanced
English for Specific Purpose courses vary in length but will also be completed in 10 weeks.
Course Scores
1. Unit Activities:
- These are cumulative points that you earn as you complete activities in the English
Discoveries/EduSoft platform.
Participation Evaluation
Your teacher will keep track of your participation during synchronous classes using the rubric in
Appendix E. Synchronous class participation will be a part of your final course grade.
V. Certificate of Completion
Students with a final score of 60% or more will be awarded a certificate of course
completion by your local English Director. A final score of 95% and above is considered a
pass with distinction.
We look forward to getting your feedback after the course and enhancing the learning experience
for future participants.
VII. Support
Experienced teachers or moderators will assist you every step of the way throughout your courses.
Contacts:
• English Director: Your English Director at your local university is your first point of contact.
• HR Representatives: Your local HR representatives will be contacting you and keeping
abreast of your progress throughout the course. They will provide you with your final
certificate upon successful completion of the course.
• Technical Support: E-mail [email protected].
• Teachers: Your teacher will be e-mailing you directly before the course start. Please check
your junk mail so you do not miss out on important communications. Ensure you add your
teacher’s e-mail to your Safe Sender list.
Students will be able to see their activity feedback in any of the following ways:
1. The students can click on “See Feedback” in the inferior part of the text box (this will
take you directly to the comment section)
3. I cannot see all the units for my course. Why isn’t the content available?
Consult your teacher about the unavailable units since the teacher has access to all the program
content in the platform.
You will not be able to check your answers after the test is finished. However, your teacher will
discuss the exam in the following synchronous session and provide a link to a file with the
correct answers in the Announcement Group Section (inside Study Group messages).
You can change your login password by clicking on the MY PROFILE on the superior right part:
Any problem related with the platform or course content, you must send a ticket to the following
email direction [email protected]
Be Proactive
Pace yourself. Do some work towards learning the language each and every day.
Waiting until the end of the week to cram in all of the work will affect your retention
of the material.
Collaborate
Attend to the synchronous online classes and participate providing feedback with
your classmates. By doing this, everyone will have the opportunity to practice the
course oral section.
Do Your Work
Work on your asynchronous and synchronous activities in the platform. This way,
you will get an excellent final grade.
